Re: smoke detectors

the fire dept. does offer free smoke detectors. Call your local station to confirm if they were in the area or if its your civillian fire block captain who approached you. There is a "fire block captain" program.

Re: smoke detectors

I need new smoke detectors for my apartment. The ones we have are waaaaay too sensitive. I can barely do any cooking without setting them off. Even just boiling a pot of water set the one in the kitchen off, so we took it down. Doing anything involving broiling sets the one in the upstairs hallway off. I'm a fairly good cook, so I'm not filling the place with smoke or anything.

Re: smoke detectors

We have the same problem with overly sensitive smoke detectors. And we enacted the same solution, to take them down. I am not happy with that.

Does anyone have a recommendation for smoke detector brands? Is this something with which the fire department can assist me?

Re: smoke detectors

I know PFD does outreach and supplies free smoke detectors. The easiest way to get the info you need is to go to the website, get the number and call.
As for overly sensitive detectors I have no idea how to address that. I used to keep a spray bottle of water around so when the smoke alarm went off I'd spray around it and stop it from beeping. My old smoke detector wasn't over-sensative though. I was a crappy cook.
