WOMEN AGAINST VIOLENCE GROUP
To all interested women in the NL vicinity: I have the Community Center in NL for Aug 28th at 7 pm. ALL women in the neighborhood are invited to attend. If you are a victim, the loved one of a victim or just concerned about the level of sexual violence escalating in North Philadelphia, I urge you to attend. This will be an open forum; I have no set agenda. Our attendees will decide that for themselves. I am hoping in the future to have guest speakers that will include self defense experts and counselors. But for this first meeting, I think our number one priority is to talk these matters though and create a bond. I am happy to share the story of my attack as a cautionary tale; what we talk about from there can be up to you. No, not for this first meeting. This can be arranged though. For the first meeting, I would like to keep it open ended and have a dialogue about why we are there and what the focus of the group will be. I was planning on telling the group what happened to me and what let me to "coming out of the rape" closet. I don't want this to be something that dissipates; I truly believe that this can be something that will strengthen neighborhood bonds. Like I said before, I can have self defense experts in one week, a rep from the police another week or counselors. This is our group and whatever we want to get out of it, I will make it happen. |

Sorry to bump again. Just a reminder for any women interested, we are meeting tomorrow night at 7. Again, for this first meeting, I would prefer women only, just so we can discuss how we want future meetings to be held. Nothing against the concerned men in the neighborhood, but sometimes the girls need to vent. Thanks, Karen |
