I need advice: Where to replace my eyeglasses...?
Purchased my first and only pair of eyeglasses from Sears Optical at Moorestown Mall about 5 years ago. Last week, one of the "legs" finally broke off (hinge broke) and Sears says they can't repair them because they don't carry this style anymore and don't have parts. The glasses are still good, although I probably need my prescription adjusted. The kind of glasses I've been wearing (for reading) are the same kind I want to purchase, again. Frameless, with bigger lenses than the current fashion, which are much smaller than look good on my face. I simply want to purchase a pair of glasses like I've been wearing and every place I go to acts like I'm asking them to fly me to the moon. If anyone has an idea which direction I should head to purchase a new pair of frameless-big-size-lens glasses, please advise. |

Headed over to the Pearle Vision Center on Rt. 38 near the Cherry Hill Mall, where I grew up...big operation, maybe they carry the glasses I want. At the very least, I'll fill-up my tank with "cheap" gas. |

For the first time ever, I just ordered glasses online at eyebuydirect.com. You just fill in your prescription and they make the glasses. I got progressive lenses with photogray for under 90.00 including shipping. There is 100 percent guarantee also. |

Wow, great advice, I really appreciate the input... drove right over to Pearle Vision after my last post and I couldn't believe it, they have the glasses I want. However, I wish I could do a combo and incorporate all the great ideas provided here! Looking forward to wearing my own glasses again as opposed to the ones I have on, which are bottom-of-the-line back ups. |

I've gone to Dr. Davis on Girard ave. for years now. He is right next to the Penn Treaty Market On Girard & Frankford aves. He does the exams & has a large selection of glasses there to choose from. Give him a try, very nice in there. |

I worked at the last mentioned place. Its $69 for uncoated single vision (non bifocal) plastic lenses. From there the price goes up. Its still reasonable compared to other places. However at the time when I left we were experiencing quality control issues with the lab. Its best to ask to have one of the opticians check the glasses to ensure they are correct. Optician or manager who can read a lensometer. |

Re: America's Best: They scratched one of my lenses when doing an adjustment, and then, when they sent the glasses in to replace the lens, they broke the frame, and didn't think to call me about it. When I called them, they hemmed and hawed and finally put the manager on the phone. And as for the price, I ended up spending nearly $300 for my two pairs that were supposed to cost $69 because my prescription was "too strong." They were very nice about explaining all of this, but I think it's just a little deceptive. Most recently, I just went to the LensCrafters at the Cherry Hill Mall. I know it's an evil chain and all, but they're very nice and very quick over there. I had just enough time to go to Wegman's and back. |
