Liberty Physical Therapy & Wellness
So, not really a comical story, but it is worth telling - short and sweet: Liberty Physical Therapy & Wellness kicks *ss and Lauree Katz is a goddess. .Ahem, I've had an issue with pain in my 'pelvic region' for a number of years now and was reluctant to get it looked at (typical guy thing)... in any case, at the incessant cajoling of my mother after I made the mistake of telling her after 2 years of daily pain, I finally decided to get it looked at... which took another year to get resolved - here's what happened: -Went to my GP, did a funny dance, got sent to get an ultrasound. -Got an ultrasound, no testicular cancer, "the boys" looked pretty d*mn neat on the inside... go for the screening, stay for the view. -Back to GP, sent to consult with an orthopaedic surgeon, referred for fMRI. -Hung out in a tiny tube while a cadre of African drummers played a rather staccato tune for an hour... got a neat "fly-by" (fly-through?) of my body from my biz to my belly - it is loads of fun to play with, the CD, not the... ummm, never mind. -Found nothing, maybe soft-tissue damage or something, here's a script for PT 3x a week. -Dawdled. Now the above mentioned process alone literally took 6+ months of appointments, etc.. you know the drill. Was introduced to Lauree at the "Away@Arcadia" party (good party, btw, and an even better Costa Rica trip) whom was told of my problem by a friend. We talked. She told me to come in. Literally, on my FIRST visit, she determined what was wrong with me (which, since you've read this far, has something to do with the right side of my pelvis locking forward) and began what I consider to be some of the finest treatment I have even gotten from any medical professional - as in, very responsible, start small, work your way up, let's test out alleviating symptoms while doing one thing at a time to judge efficacy. So, I went for a number of visits of pure therapy, some of which involved PRRT (Primal Reflex Release Technique - which is a clinical way of saying "getting slapped around by your doctor"), then worked our way up to a more holistic approach complete with core strengthening routines. So, I gush because after you are in pain for a length of time, after that pain is managed and alleviated, your world opens up - it's a level of mental resolution akin to cleaning a rather dirty window and seeing what things really look like again. And now I am happy to report that I am very seldom in pain anymore, and that I continue to visit their 2nd St. location to exercise while she attends to other patients - in which I get the added benefit of being corrected for frequently exercising incorrectly... you would be surprised how beneficial it is to have a set of eyes on you that know body mechanics professionally - no gym I've ever been to does this and you can immediately feel the difference. As a result, I often recommend her to other people I know who have a sports injury or chronic pain. On a personal note, she handles all this while maintaining another full career and busy family life - in fact, it is a pleasure to be in there because her and her husband and child and dog have achieved what few are able to (albeit it seems like that's how 'things should be') do in carefully integrating and balancing their work and family life... it is immediately comforting and one of the fringe benefits, in addition to having my pain managed, and in addition to learning how to strengthen and support my body into old age, is that you pick up a few good tidbits of life-strategies in the process. I write to this length because that family and their businesses are a very needed and welcome addition to their clients, this neighborhood and their friends - I wish them continued success in their endeavors; if you are even in need of that type of service, I suggest you look no further. |

My insurance covered the costs once the deductable was reached... I'm not well-versed in Insurancese, but I think that's pretty common nowadays. |

I was in a car accident in February. Was rear-ended on the Schuylkill on my way home from work -- that highway is a health hazard. Anyway, a few days later my back completely locked up & my doctor sent me to PT. I went to a Novacare close to work because it was recommended by my doctor and convenient. After 2 months of going there regularly, i was extremely frustrated and didn't have a very high opinion of PT in general based on my first experience with it. To begin with, no one ever really took a good history of what had happened and my problem. When I arrived, one of the PTs said, "Oh, you were rear-ended? We see that all the time and have got just what you need." Over the couple of months I went there 2-3x/wk, I think I saw 5 different people. Usually, they were taking 3-5 people through exercises at the same time. Basically, 1) they didn't understand my problem 2) there was no continuity of care and 3) the treatment approach was lacking. I had seen LPT in the neighborhood, and decided to call and discuss my situation. Lauree talked to me about her philosophy and approach to treating injuries like mine, and I liked what I heard. I really hadn't been sure that I wanted to keep going with PT anywhere, but had to try something, and speaking with Lauree convinced me to give it a try with her. I could not be happier with my decision. My experience at Liberty PT was COMPLETELY different from my experience at Novacare. Lauree took a long history of what I had been through and my specific back/neck problems that were persisting. She started me on a path of treatment that addressed my specific needs and gave me good lifestyle adjustment recommendations to carry forward to help protect my back/neck (e.g. changes to my work station, how I was sleeping, how I position my seat in my car on my long commute). She was very attentive, understood my problem better than I did (which I wasn't feeling at Novacare), and genuinely seemed to care that I got better. A few months later, I was back to pre-accident shape, and have taken with me some important knowledge about how to take care of my back for the rest of my life. I don't know how unique a PT place like this is, but I know that we are fortunate to have it (and Lauree) in NoLibs. Thanks, Lauree!
