Coaches Meeting - 29th July

Next Proposed coaches meeting is 29th July..

Although I will be on Hols, I would like to ensure your comments & feedback are represented so come on,
cough it up, what's right, what's wrong, constructive comments only please along with suggestions on any improvements.

Here are some of the things I have picked up...
Late Summer training - ie after Doug Anderson & thro to my proposed 1500m races to tie in with the olympic mile in August..Good idea?
Paper daily/weekly shedules for athletes - will they work,
Core exercises - As recommended by the Chris Evans show....worth doing?
Strengthening exercises - any thoughts
Drills - any feedback welcome
Club Thursday nights - what should we do here
Juniors - any concerns
Lastly - triathlon stuff. Being asked more & more for advice here so willing to go on triathlon coaching course, but maybe someone else wants to go too/instead.

As the paper says - discuss.....

Swiss Steve

A few things from me:

From a 'midfielders' point of view, I think things are better. A year or so ago, I felt that perhaps we were not catered for as much as the fast boys or nice n easys, however there are a number of coaches in our group now which helps (and on the forthcoming list), even if they are not coaching (thanks to Nick J for some good advice last night).

I think 'alternative' training is good. The core exercises at the end of the session were a really good idea. Richard J and I were discussing areas where we sometimes struggle, and strengthening the core for later in races is a definite must.

Advice on strength exercises would also be welcome. I for one (and not cos I am Scottish - well maybe partly....) have no intention of paying for a gym membership for all I would use it.

One item to throw into the pot was what we discussed at the end last night - a possible 'buddy' system - especially for the newer members. Subject to having a sufficient number of coaches, could we look at a rota system to spend time with newer members, discussing the session, making sure they are not left out and are able receive small group coaching and perhaps feel more able to provide feedback?

All for now (the boss is coming....)

Re: Coaches Meeting - 29th July

Good point George. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult for one coach each week to be designated to look after new members and give them individual advice and support.

Another thought - what about a couple of coaches offering some advice for runners gearing up for a particular race. The obvious one would be a session in December/January for all the entrants to the London Marathon. This could be a meeting in a pub after training to discuss training plans, the reasoning behind certain types of runs, realistic targets, avoiding injuries etc. The same could be done for the club championship races. Coaching can take many forms!

Re: Coaches Meeting - 29th July

probably too late now, but better late then never I suppose!

Ive been with the flyers since January (I think) and have really enjoyed it so far.

Whilst being here, I have enjoyed many of the moments, so my ideas are as follows.....

MORE BBQ'S

Ok thats all

Na seriously,

- More visists to Ampthill park
- More hill sessions (such as the cornfields oppersite FLC) that session I particulaly enjoyed.
- I know Im going to get moaned at for this, but more Core excersises.........sorry, but they are good even if they hurt a little!
- Perhaps giving advise or general meet ups for discussions / concerns for those interested in other events such as Duathlons or triathlons etc (The pub sounds the ideal meeting place....)

Thats really all I can think of at the moment
