Leighton 10

Well done to all who competed in the Leighton 10 on Sunday.

Good to see Richard Wilson winning the Club Championship. Yet another product of the "Long and slow" Saturday Morning Club progressing on to bigger and better things. Also a special mention to Andy Atherton who allegedly charged through the field like a possessed Rhino in the last half mile to overtake numerous competitors.

But I digress.

In 1983, the second running of the Leighton 10, 30% of the field finished in under 60 minutes, 78% finished in under 70 minutes and 96% finished in under 80 minutes.

This year only 4% finished in under 60 minutes, 26% finished in under 70 minutes and 51% finished in under 80 minutes.

Was Leighton Buzzard twinned with Stalag 4 in East Germany in the early 80s or is there another explanation?

Re: Leighton 10

...now where did i put those pies?

How do the percentages translate into head count for each year though Stato? Maybe we just have more runners; especially fun runners.

Re: Leighton 10

Somewhere in the race history it mentions that the race was undoubtedly short. The new course was accurately measured, hence the apparent drop in standards.

Well done Richard, nice one and well deserved.

Re: Leighton 10

Actual numbers put it into perspective.

Over 100 people under 60mins in 1983 and 5 in 2008.

Makes me fatigued just thinking about it. Pass me the wine.....

Re: Leighton 10

Sorry GK, I made a mistake with my stats.

In 2008 5 out of 231 (2%) broke 60 minutes, whereas in 1983 104 out of 335 (31%) managed it.

1983 - wasn't that the year that the Leighton 10 was invaded by the Goose Green Runners?
