re: Cartoon wars DMN
Mr. Hanania,
Muslims may not accept that anyone else in the world has rights or that others have their own beliefs, but we do. I believe that treating women inhumanely is a hate crime. I also believe that killing people who criticize you is a hate crime, and that killing innocent people is a hate crime. When this is done in the name of Mohammed, it invites attacks. When these attack may come in the way of literary commentary, artistic film and cartoon renderings, they are incited and yet they do not kill, maim or destroy property. You are right, you need to get your people together and instead of rising up and protesting differences of opinion with riots and burning down embasies, you need to do some educating and some PR work. Come out and condem the killlings and destructions perpetrated by fellow Muslims in Mohammed's name and you may get some respect.
I do not condone the politics of this administration in its dealings with the Arab and Muslim world.
i abhor how the Palestinians have been treated. I have been an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq. I am vocal about it in my art and my letters to this effect. Fortunatly I am allowed to speak my mind in a country that accepts decent and protects freedom of speech. However, I am becoming less and less sympathetic to the Muslims as the bombings and terrorist attacks kill innocent people and only seem to get more fanatical and radical. You are not going to bring the Western nations to its knees. You are going to rally the Western World against you, just like President Bush has done to rally Middle Eastern sentiments and beyond against the U.S. We must all stop this non sense and respect our differences or work to get beyond them. Boycots yes, cartoons and editorials provide a voice, but death and destruction are not options unless we are all content to kill each other off- which we might just do.
