Message:   Thanks for writing.

I thinkt hat Hamas has engaged in terrorism since 1994, not just terrorism but terrorism intended to prevent peace.

Now, you are telling me that theys pent the past 14 years using violence onlybecause they wanted to be inc harge to make peace? That would be hypocritical, to say the least.

I supported Yasir Arafat despite the allegations of corruption because he did more than any other Palestinian to free us from Arab bondage and then elevate us to force Israel to recognzie us. He wasn't a great government leader, though and many in his Fatah organization were corrupt.

I know about that Fatah corruption because when I served as President of the Palestinian American Congress the Fatah organization here in the US did everything it could to use the organization to elevate themselves and get themselves jobs. Jim Zogby even helped them do that and did everything he could to undermine me.

AAI, at the time, didn't want a Palestinian organization to speak for Palestinians so they coopted us. I hope they have changed.

But the people in Palestine have to STOP using the suffering as an excuse to embrace hatred and violence.

We Palestinians have NEVER been against Jews. We oppose Jewish politics that says we don't have a right to live in Palestine. We have lost several wars trying to fight that premise and we are in a position where we eiuther keep fighting and KEEP LOSING because we don't have good leaders, or we accept a compromise, be honest about it, and try our best to get as much of Palestine back to form our state.

I agree that Israel's leaders today are arrogant and they do engage in a subtle form of terorrism guised in "defense" ... bombing an Islamic leader with a missile and then killing 9 civilians standing nearby is the worst form of terrorism. But DON'T DENY that suicide bombing is not also a form of terrorism. It is terrorism, too. We can't denounce what they do to us if what we do to them is just as bad or sometimes worse.

Palestinians are just, principled and we have truth on our side. We must stand by the truth, not lie to make the truth seem more acceptable.

Speak the truth and admit what we have done. Change what we have done. Do things better. That's our future.

Letting emotion drive our response to Israel's often intransigience is wrong.
