Where are you from?   Ohio
Are you Arab?   No
Message:   I read your article on Arab American news.com about post 9/11 discrimination and how Arab Americans find themselves in a different type of America after 9/11. I applaud your article because this topic is not brought up enough by the mainstream US media.

I myself am (East) Indian-American, born and raised in Toledo, Ohio and am a non practicing Hindu. I consider myself 100% American, I love hot dogs and hamburgers, college football, I have a dog, I speak perfect English, etc. Furthermore, I'm a good citizen, I pay my taxes, I vote, I make an honest living, I donate to charities, but now I'm a suspect 'terrorist' in many American's eyes. After 9/11, I've encountered more racism and bigotry than I have in my 22 years before. This is the least talked about by-product of post 9/11 and is unfortunate and unjust. There is not one good reason to think I'm a 'terrrorist' except for my skin color.

It's so unfair that the media seems to only show Arabs and South Asians in a negative light and never highlights the positive. I don't see them on television playing doctors and engineers (which many of them are), I only see cab drivers, 7-11 owners, and shadowy figures portrayed on mainstream TV. The news never shows anything except images of Arabs living in shacks and trying to hurt Americans. When you put all this together it's easy to see why American's distrust people that are Middle Eastern or appear to be. It's systemic racism on all levels and there really appears to be no end in sight.

Best,

Arun Dev
