Syringe drivers in the community - family involvement
We have often have palliative patients at home with syringe drives for opioid administration. We are able to get prefilled syringes supplied via our local DGH pharmacy. We often train patients to change their own syringes (where they have sufficient dexterity, eyesight etc.) We would like (in some instances) to train family members to carry out this role - but have met with resistance from GP's and DN's. Any thoughts - do you do this - what are the pitfalls/advantages |

Re: Syringe drivers in the community - family involvement
I too have been in this situation, and I see no problem (we let them measure out oral opiates etc. why should we no allow them to be involved with drivers I(as long as they have the dexterity/skills needed? |
