I.T opioid and Wound infiltration
Hi There! Does anyone have any guidelines on one shot intrathecal opioids? We are revamping our guidelines at present and would like some input in relation to how long observations are recorded post injection and how soon can other opioids be given post injection. Also if anyone has any information on continuous wound infiltration especially pumps used and observation recorded that would be great! All help would be very much appreciated!! Thanks, kathy

Re: I.T opioid and Wound infiltration
Hi Kathy, We use the 'no other opioids for 12 hours' mantra at the moment. However we promote that if pain returns prior to this and simple analgesia is ineffective they should titrate IV morphine. Also need to update our guidelines. |

Re: Re: I.T opioid and Wound infiltration
Ros, We are considering introducing it diamorphine as analgesia for our TKRs and THRs. Currently most anaesthetists use blocks only which do not seem to be effective enough. My colleagues are very cautious about this and it would help if you could send me copies of any audits or guidelines you have for their intra op use and post op monitoring. Thanks very much, Roger |
