Pumps

We are in the process of trialling two different epidural pumps. The BodyGuard and the Gemstar. Does any one have any thoughts about either and the after care / training of them?

Re: Pumps

Hi
We have been using McKinley for the last 18 months and are just introducing them in maternity. To date we have had no problems. They are user friendly and we get good back up from the company. Hope this helps.

Re: Pumps

We have been using the McKinley Bodyguard 545 epidural pump for the past 20 months and have had no problems. They are very safe and easy to use. The company provided training and good back up. The transition from our old pumps was very smooth.
Good luck,
Ros.

Re: Pumps

We introduced the McKinley pumps in January, they are a really good pump, easy to use and the ward staff like them. The only problem we have had with them is that the lock boxes keep breaking, and they are costly to replace.

Thank you for your replies. Does anyone use the Gemstar?

Re: Pumps

Hi Charly. We use the Gemstars and have done so for the past 5 years. We have found them to be very user-friendly, robust and reliable. Support from the reps (teaching etc) is also very good. I can highly recommend the Gemstars!

Re: Pumps

Hya charly
gemstar have a good reputation around here (Surrey and SW London) just bought another five and our local elective orthopaedic centre use them. Robust (very, very droppable) and almost intuitive to programme.
I would reccomend and im not being paid to say that
best wishes

Re: Pumps

Hi Charly
we use the gemstar and don't seem to get many problems. I heard the after care was good.

Re: Pumps

I have McKinley for general surgery and Gemstar for obstetrics.
The Gemstar pumps have needed more repair and servicing.
I prefer the McKinley but the only drawback is the lockbox which could be more robust.

Re: Pumps

We use the Gemstar for epidural and the CADD PCSII for PCA.
Gemstar seems to work well.
CADD also very good and it comes in two forms one for PCA and one for Epidural.
