Pre-op patient education

Hi, my hospital has a limited acute pain service and we currently have no patient education material to give patients pre-op. I would be very interested to know what happens in other places

Re: Pre-op patient education

Hi Joanne,
Our acute pain service devised a patient information booklet that covers PCA, Epidural, oral and I.M analgesia. The surgical ward nurses give these booklets to the patients on admission. As we only have 2 nurses in our service we don't have time to do pre-op visits on the general surgical wards. Although we do make a point to visit the donar nephrectomy patients as we find they benefit psychologically from the visit as well as physically as we give them one of our booklets then. Hope this helps.Good luck!

Thanks Kathy, would there be any chance of you sending or emailing me a copy, it would be really useful to see how you have presented this information.
