help with a problem Sickle cell patient
Hello folks We have recently seen a SCD patient who has presented to our Trust on six occasions over the last 6 weeks and been admitted on 4 of these. He shows very verbally aggresive behaviour towards nurses and demands up to 90mg diamorphine IM every 2 hours, tapering down over a few days, he then self discharges.I would like some help to track his movements over the last few years so if this rings any bells with anyone please contact me on the above email or Trust email Rhian.Clarke@epsom-sthelier.nhs.uk or my pager 07659152991 Thanks folks

Re: help with a problem Sickle cell patient
Hi Rhian, some times SCD patient develop this behaviour due to the attitude of health care professions that they have seen over the years. Why not focus on getting him admitted, gaining his confidence and try and get him onto PCA morphine, and oral opioid on discharge if he has chronic nociceptive pain. |

Re: help with a problem Sickle cell patient
Hya Carol and other interested parties. Yes, thats a good plan and one we use for our transient population of SCD, we also hve a more stable population who have individual tailored managment plans and normally very little problem with agrresive behaviour. This patient is however a little more taxing. After i posted this request for help, an email pinged onto my computer from our security office, it is a national alert from Security Management Services (national NHS security agency) N/SMS/141107/29. If you get a chance go and have a read, it will be in your security office - it gives background to the problems we have been having and identifies this indivdual as HIGH RISK to NHS staff. best wishes Rhian |
