administration of oral morphine 10mgs in 5mls (oramorph)

please could you advise me whether trusts store oramorph as a full CD ie 2 nurses to sign out the drug and enter remaining stock level in CD book.plus 2 nurses to witness administation to the patient.
we currnetly store oramorph a a full CD and as a result there is often a delay in administration to the patient.

Here in Somerset we actively promote the fact that oramorph at this strength is not a CD, and encourage single nurse administration.

as you rightly say 'two nurse' administration and CD style checks adds to the patients wait for analgesia, and it was for this reason that we dropped it.

Oramorph is a schedule 5 drug and is, therefore, in the same class as Pulmo Bailey cough syrup, kaolin & morphine for diarrhoea, and co-codamol.

The requirements for two nurse checking were lifted in 2006

NO, don't let them keep it as a CD, since we declassified it as one we have seen much better usage, less waiting time (and, therefore, better pateint care!)
