Entonox training

I am trying to find out who is providing training on the use of entonox at present.
I have trained staff myself in the past but there doesn't seem to be a standardised requirement for training in my trust, anyone any thoughts?

Re: Entonox training

Call me paranoid - but the first thing I looked at was where you are based, because it could just as easily been my place!

As you say there seems to be no national requirements. (try talking to midwives - some of them get no specific training in its use at all!)

Within my own Trust I took it on a couple of years back.

I've been using the training pack that BOC (who make the gas) produced.

It has a training video (bit dramatic, but basically OK) a set of OHP slides (far too many - but I just 'cherry picked' the most relevent ones)and a CD rom of the slides (although I could never get them to run on my PC)

We have a very basic patient group directive for its use (but in all fairness it needs binning and re-writing as it is not up to the current 'house-style')

Whilst we work on setting up a new PGD I currently ask the ward staff to get entonox written up on the prn section of the drug chart.

Try giving your local BOC Rep a bell, if they still do the pack its not a bad starting point.

Re: Entonox training

Hi,
I think that BOC reps will come to your workplace and give presentations if you need them to. Ours certainly does and goes into the formulation of entonox, the history of its use and a demonstration of the equipment involved. We have found them very helpful. We simply go through local guidelines after this (including PGD's).

Re: Entonox training

Hi,
BOC are very helpful and often come in to train in the trust where I work.
