Self prescribed morphie

We have recently had a patient on one of our acute wards that is though to have been responsible for increasing his own mst dose on his ward drug prescription.

If your Trust keeps the drug prescription at the foot of the bed, have you ever experienced this?

(it would help, of course, if I had managed to spell morphine correctly!) (it is Friday!)

Re: Self prescribed morphie

This is not the first report of this on here (search the forum for D.I.Y morphine prescribing)

I would be willing to bet that this is a much more common problem than we think, a typical inpatient prescription can contain many corrections, additions, and unreadable signitures - it's easy to see how the individual seeking higher doses of opioids could use this to their advantage.
