Oramorph Unit Dose Vials (UDV's) Discontinued from March 2008

We recieved the message below from the manufacturer (Boehringer-Ingelheim) today.

Dear Mr Bruce,

Launched in the UK almost 20 years ago, Oramorph was the first commercially available liquid oral morphine preparation. The brand developed with the first introduction of Oramorph Solution followed by Oramorph Concentrate and some years later the addition of Unit Dose Vials.

Market demand for the unit dose vials (UDVs) has been relatively low and manufacturing costs have continually increased because of the small volumes being produced. It is for this reason that a decision has been taken to discontinue Oramorph UDVs with effect from the end of March 2008.

Oramorph Oral Solution and Oramorph Concentrated Oral Solution are not affected by this decision and will continue to be available in the UK.

If you have any questions about this please contact Medical Information on 01344 XXXXXX, extension XXXX.

Yours sincerely,

Elizabeth Gwynne (Mrs) MSc, MRPharmS
Team Leader, Medical & Scientific Affairs
