Just a quick question re what you are wearing for work. Your own clothes? Matron/sister/staff nurse uniform? Other i.e polo shirt/tunic top unique to pain team? Thanks, Dee |

Re: Uniform
I'd probably get thrown out if I tried to get into Matrons dress, so it's scrubs (most of the time) or own clothes for me. |

Re: Uniform
We wear nursing uniform of trousers and tunics. The trust has a specific uniform for specialist nursing staff. I would much rather wear scrubs that be swathed in polyester cotton but we must tow the line... |

Re: Uniform
Hi Dee We wear nurses uniforms which is fine except we are constantly asked questions by relatives such as, "when is my mother coming home". I quite fancy a big yellow badge which says "I don't work on the ward!" I would hate to wear own clothes. Think of all that extra washing!

Re: Uniform
I wear a blue sisters uniform, my collegue wears his own clothes. I personally would like the hospital to have a seperate uniform for specialist nurses I think it would make things a whole lot clearer. I still get asked about ward stuff though, I don't think any uniform would help with that!

Re: Uniform
We wear staff nurses uniform with burgundy epaulettes. Specialist Nurse uniform apparently! It looks very military and we often get saluted by both staff and patients! We have purchased name badges with our names in large font so that patients can read them and "Acute Pain Specialist Nurse" printed below. Our colleagues on our sister site wear their own clothes. Not sure how this complies with infection control policy. Ros. |

Ros wrote: "Our colleagues on our sister site wear their own clothes. Not sure how this complies with infection control policy" There have been a couple of articles out recently that suggest that people who wear their own clothes to work keep the cleaner, and make better use of protective equipment (gowns/aprons/cloves etc.) and, therefore, represent less of a risk! (that being said I wear scrubs

Re: Uniform
we are just going into a uniform that is different to any other in the trust. This was chosen by specialist nurses and will have advanced nurse practitioner embroidered onto it. |

Re: Uniform
If we are talking about uniform colour. we are wearing white tunics with red piping and black trousers. So simon you may look better in that!!!We have just gone through a review process in the trust and we are all being called now trainee advanced nurse practitioner or advanced nurse practitioner and this is being embroidered onto the tunic.

Re: Uniform
Like everone else when we wore a sisters uniform we were thought to be ward staff by patients/relatives etc so we have a navy blue suit with blue blouses paid for by the trust. They were purchased from Simon Jersey. We wash them ourselves with very little or no ironing required! However we have just become a Foundation Trust and the uniform policy for clinical and non clinical staff is about to be revised so the suit may go out of the window. |

Re: Uniform
Thanks for your replies. We went from wearing our own clothes to wearing a navy polo shirt with a pain management logo and our own black trousers. Our Trust has been promoting 'bare beneath the elbows' and we've noticed that other specialist nurse groups are divided between own clothes and sister/charge nurse uniform. May be a good plan to develop a specialist nurse uniform.
