Titles Specilaist or Practitioner?

Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner? That is the question. NMC and RCN have still not concluded this issue completely. Our Trust is in a debate about the appropriateness of these titles and are trying to formulate some local agreement. New posts are appearing daily, the latest 'Nurse Practitioner bowel screening' I wonder what sort of degree they do, or not. Any thoughts on this subject greatly appreciated.

Re: Titles Specilaist or Practitioner?

Hi Carol.
Our trust have just gone through a process to prepare everybody for the new advanced register!!The titles given are associate advanced nurse practitioner for those without masters (band 6) and advanced nurse practitioner with masters or masters level study (band 7)Everybody has now got a generic job description and everybody has had to produce a portfolio which has been assessed by a panel to see whether they meet the right level etc.
If you need any more info. Let me know
