Terri's Wishes
All information is taken from court records, interviews, and Michael's book. February 1990 - Terri collapses and ends up in a coma and eventually a PVS like state. 1990-1992 - Michael cares for Terri a great deal giving a range of different therapies to her to help her with brain injury. Terri's prognosis only shows minimal improvement. 1991/1992 - Michael's close friend Fran Casler, hears Michael say numerous times, that he is having difficult time caring for Terri Schiavo. He states that he does not know what do with her and that he and Terri never discussed anything about this (What to do if one of them becomes severely disabled?). Fran Casler relayed on Fox News: CASLER: Well, I mean , Michael, Michael was like a broken record. He said it so many times. And the one particular time that I remember, that I recall explicitly, was when we were at a concert on the beach, on Saint P Beach. We were all sitting around on blankets and beach chairs, and Michael was to my left, I had another friend sitting next to me, and he was really directing his conversation towards her, uh, because she was ‘fresh meat” as I would call it. And he said “How should I know what she wanted? “and he would, he shrugged and … HANNITY: And he said that often to you CASLER: He said it so many times HANNITY: That he didn’t know CASLER: No 1992 - Michael brings a lawsuit against doctors for failing to treat Terri correctly. The purpose of the suit is - To gain the funds necessary to care for Terri Schiavo for the rest of her life. Pg. 54 Terri The Truth "I want the opportunity to have enough money to take care of Theresa." Pg. 62 Terri the Truth "What I wanted from the trial, aside from the money would enable us to care for Terri...." Michael accepts Terri's diagnosis of PVS and brings the suit against the doctors to get the money. During this time, Michael has his relationship with Cindy Shook. According to Cindy Shook regarding Terri's wishes: "How the hell should I know we never spoke about this, my God I was only 25 years old. How the hell should I know? We were young. We never spoke of this." Michael reinterates what he told Fran Cassler. Michael also has a relationship with Trudy Capone. He says pretty much the same thing: http://treyjackson.typepad.com/junction/files/capone.mov Michael himself also indirectly reinterates what he implied to Fran, Cindy, Trudy in the 2003 Larry King Interview: KING: I have a 35-year-old daughter. I've never asked her this question. I don't know if she has a living will. I hope she does. But if she doesn't, I don't know the answer to the question. Because most 35-year-olds, I guess, don't talk about it. SCHIAVO: Nobody talks about death, Larry. Continued.... |

Michael sues Terri's doctor. Michael makes a case that Terri's life expectancy is 50 years and he needs 20 million dollars to care for Terri during this time. Michael brings expert witnesses who testify to this and that Terri will need expensive rehab, a special house, a special van, etc. Michael also makes a case that Terri Schiavo responds to him in effort to get more money. (for pain and suffering). Michael gives his famous Mal Trial testimony that he promises to take care of Terri for the rest of HIS life: Michael Schiavo: I believe in the vows I took with my wife, through sickness, in health, for richer or poor. I married my wife because I love her and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I'm going to do that. The jury ultimately awards(after all fees)$750,000. February 1993 - Michael has a falling out with Schindlers over a share of the LOC (Loss of Consortium) money and the funds for Terri's rehab. Summer 1993 - Michael finds Jodi Centonze. Michael is also the sole heir of Terri's Trust fund. Michael now despises the Schindlers. Summer 1993 - Terri's doctor tells Michael that Terri is probably not going to get any better and he should think about letting her go. The doctors suggests that Michael should consider removing the feeding tube. Michael's response - "I couldn't do that to Terri." The Schindlers send Michael a letter telling him to start the therapy for Terri or move on with his life(pass care back.). http://journals.aol.com/shjusticeforall/SavingTerriSchiavo/entries/2004/11/29/letter-to-michael-from-bob-and-mary-schindler/844 Michael does neither. Summer 1993 - The Schindler sue Michael for Terri's guardianship. Summer/fall 1993 - Michael consents to denial of antibiotics for Terri for her UTI hoping she will die. Michael does this in total secrecy of the Schindlers. At this point Michael is Terri's sole heir and he has started a serious relationship with Jodi. continued.... |

Through the course of the guardianship suit, Michael is questioned about the UTI incident. In defense for his actions, Michael suddenly recalls that Terri would not want to live in her current condition based on a train trip conversation that occured years ago where Terri remarked she would not want live in a disabled condition (it was about her uncle who was somewhat disabled but not on life support.) Bobby Schindler put it best regarding this revelation: "Which Michael are we to believe?" Bobby Schindler asks. "The one who promised he would take care of his wife for the rest of his life, or the one who says these were Terri's death wishes?" This is only months after his sworn Mal Practice Trial testimony. 1994 - Michael proposes to Jodi Centonze. 1993-1995 - The suit continues. Michael can't make a move to end Terri's life. Pg. 95 Terri the Truth "Since we were already in the middle of litigation, my attorney suggested that, for the time being, we recind the DNR and have Terri's bladder infection treated." Late 1995 - The guardianship suit is dismissed. Days later, Michael tries at his second attempt to deny Terri antibiotics for a UTI. The nursing refuses to comply. Late 1995 - Michael has Debbi Bushnell contact George Felos. 1997 - George Felos sends a letter to Bob Schindler stating that Terri's feeding tube is going to be disconnected in due time and that he investigating Trri's wishes. 1998 - Michael submits his petition. Michael now claims that Terri wouldn't want the feeding tube: This after Michael made his intentions to marry Jodi Centonze. This after George Felos, a right to die attorney, is brought in the picture. Michael is the sole heir to Terri's $750,000. This is direct contradiction to Michael's sworn Mal Trial testimony. This is also in contradiction to Michael's statement to the doctor regarding the removal feeding tube - "I couldn't do that to Terri." This is contradiction to Michael's statements to various people that he and Terri didn't discuss such issues. Continued... |

1998 - GAL Pearse is appointed to look at the situation. He asks Michael if there are others who know Terri's wishes. Michael's answer is NO. Michael tells GAL Pearse about the train trip conversation. This time he changes his story and says the conversation was about the removal of life support. This in contradiction to Michael's recollection of the conversation in 1993. 1998 - GAL Pearse submits his report. Michael is not credible. September 1999 - Scott and Joan mysteriously come forward and say that know Terri's wishes. This is after the GAL Pearse said that Michael was not credible regarding Terri's wishes. Michael is deposed. He said that he won't turned ovet guardianship to the Schindlers because of the hell they put him through during the first guardianship suit. Michael says this is his ONLY REASON. 2000 - The trial starts. Michael reccounts that train trip conversation in court in which he now states that Terri doesn't want to be burden. His account is different from what GAL Pearse reports. Michael also reveals additional conversations he had with Terri when watching TV programs. Michael never told this to GAL Pearse. Scott and Joan Schiavo testify as well. Michael, Scott and Joan offer no proof to their claims and it is all hearsay. Terri is sentenced to death (removal of the feeding tube is granted) based on those hearsay claims which is supposely Clear and Convincing evidence of Terri's wishes. Continued.... |

The final conclusion to Terri's wishes: 1. Michael stated to 3 different people that he didn't know what to do with Terri. 2. Michael stated at one point that he could never remove the feeding tube from Terri. 3. Michael never offered any proof to what he was saying and it was all hearsay. 4. Michael gave conflicting versions of Terri's alleged wishes. AT THE TIME THE DECISION WAS MADE: 1. Michael was set to marry Jodi. 2. Michael was to sole heir to Terri's Trust fund. 3. Michael's position was in direct contradiction to his sworn Mal Trial testimony. According to the Schindlers, nobody (and I mean nobody) ever heard Terri say anything about wanting to die if she ever became disabled. Neither the Schindlers nor Michael expected the case to last another 5 years. Pg. 166 Terri The Truth "I'd never thought about that. Until then, I's figure that once the judge made his decision that was it. Honestly, I'd never considered the possibility that if Greer went our way, it didn't necessarily mean that it was over." Pg. 168 Terri the Truth "George told me to expect another hearing, and then a possible appeal to the state supreme court. I thought, This is going to take forever. Who knew?" |
