I am trying to find a chinese food delivery place in Northern Liberties area. I live by Standard Tap and cannot find any decent Chinese food delivery place. Chinatown is just too far to drive out to every time I crave some yummy Pork fried rice and wonton soup.
I am so sorry to say this, because the people at Let's Wok are so sweet, but I have been going there since they opened and I've found that lately the food is really sub-par. Sometimes undercooked. The sauces are gelatinous - so bad I've actually had to throw the food away (practically a sin to throw chinese food away). I would love an alternate suggestion, because I too have been looking for a good place.
THERE'S IS GREAT PLACE CALLED THE CHINA HOUSE ON 4TH AND SPRINGARDEN STS IN THE LITTLE PLAZA THAT HAS A RITE AIDE. THEY DELIVER AND ITS PRETTY CLEAN AND THE PEOPLE ARE NICE.
I was there last week ordering my usual general's chicken and while waiting there was a mouse crawling in their lights. They have the light like office's do. It skived me out so much. I dont think they have the best food around. The food was good before i seen that.
Asia on the Parkway will deliver to Northern Liberties. The best chinese delivery at the same price point. Very clean and nice restaurant. The food is great!
My fiance and I are new to the neighborhood and had the WORST time trying to find good Chinese food for delivery. A friend of mine recommended "Golden Chopstick" on 18th and Spring Garden. They deliver to NL and we have enjoyed the food. I would recommend them any day.
There's a really good Chinese place on Aramingo Ave that delivers to Northern Liberties. The name of the place is Ho Sai Gai.
The number is 215-426-2100. Hours are weekdays from 10:30am-11pm, weekends 11am-12am.
I have occasionally had New Harmony on 9th street (215.627.4520) deliver to me, depending on the night and how busy they are. They are a vegetarian restaurant and I think they are very yummy!
We ordered Asia on the Parkway tonight and he told me they have added Thai food on their menu. They will have this on their website next week! I think the owner is very nice and for the price, they are the best Chinese/ Thai delivery.
Long River Chinese !!!!! been using them to deliver to NL since I moved from Spring Garden area 8 yrs ago. No MSG, diet menu (no sticky sauces). I think they are on Hamilton st, but always come through.....and you can call them Wrong Liver...
Asia on the Parkway is VERY good although perhaps a trifle less authentic than you might find in any city's China Town! Maybe it's just the ambiance (pleasantly decorated, clean...) that makes it seem less like your typical Oriental-cuisine restaurant. Still, you're sure to enjoy the food. I don't know about their old menu, but their new Thai (some spicy hot, some not) selections are quite yummy! (I work at 18th & Arch and went there about 3 weeks ago with 2 coworkers. We loved it. Today I'm taking my secretary there for lunch! Happy Thanksgiving!
wow! mario suggests Charles Plaza! Hands down the best Chinese in the city. Vegitarian menu and Charles is amazing. The food will blow your socks off. I never would have imagined someone would have known about it. No delivery though. Yet, well worth the trip.
i noticed and as a long time customer am not happy. that was some of the better 'americanized' chinese in the neighborhood. let's wok was usually busy, i wonder why they closed? i dred going to the place at 4th and Spgrdn. chinatown is great but a little far for take-out. anyone recommend a place in or close to our hood that is good?
I heard this as a rumour before, but I didnt believe it. So I was in there one day and asked the guy working. I said "Susanna Foo? Susanna Foo?" and he looked at me like I was crazy and didn't understand my english. So i was thinking "oh well..just a story I guess".
Then my eyes wondered to this health certificate or something over the counter, and sure enough the name on it says Susanna Foo. Bonzai!
Score one for the rumour mill.
well i hope susanne foo's name wouldnt be on that place. I have seen a mouse crawing in the light fixtures. I think they were shut down for being dirty
Monica,
You said you saw a mouse at The China House on 4th and Springarden and now your saying you saw a mouse at Lets Wok on 4th and Girard. Can you clarify, or are you one of those people who see mice everywhere?
Do you realize Let's Wok doesn't exist at 4th and Girard and hasn't for a long time? The one you are calling is much farther north and do not deliver to this area. The Let's Wok at 4th and Girard closed and then for a short time was Wingador which also closed. That location is available
Chef King has awesome food; I order from them weekly. Their sesame tofu and string beans in garlic sauce are delicious (and I'm a major meat eater!). I actually have their number saved into my phone in case I want to grab some quick take out or have delivery on its way before I get home!
Its on Spring Garden between 10th and 11th. Here's the number: (215) 763-2528
Yup, Chef King is awesome. Well, at least the general tso tofu, the only thing I ever get for Chinese takeout. My boyfriend says their chicken fried rice is excellent. We tried them based on another chinese food post, buried around here somewhere...
Chef King gets my vote for the nearest with decent food. At all costs avoid China Star, a few years ago wasn't bad but i don't think they have changed there oil since then. Shady place and have seen people go in, pound on the counter, slip money and walk out with a little packet that wasn't chinese food, no words were ever said.
I can't rememeber the name of the place but On South Street and 2nd street there is a very good chineese place that delivers to Northern Liberties. Great Crab Rangoons!! (I think they call them crab wantons too). delivery does take a long time though. Ususally 45 minutes to an hour
the best in the city for delivery is Rich City on Lombard between 5th and 6th but they come up to us in the neighborhood. The food is always really good and they move fast most times.
I just wanna add that China House is some of the worst Chinese I've ever eaten. Next time I'll just drive my ass down to Szechuan Royale at 7th and Walnut for something decent.
For some reason this board put my post in the middle, so here it is again:

China Star on Girard Ave is no longer a option, seems to have burnt out this weekend, guess they were lucky that no one was hurt, being the family lived above the store.

I think overall they are great because get the food to you. Its hot 70% of the time..But hey, what the hell do you expect? They are totally hooking u up. Its not a lot either if you think about it. Plus if they forget something...They will bring it to you right away!! I would recommend it to all of my friends...I'm a picky eater so getting good food even if its not piping hot is key!!!! DO it ...trust me you won't be disappointed!!!
Tried Chef King (11th and Spring Garden) last night based on the reviews here.
It rocked! Seriously. Good stuff, large portions - very reasonably priced. Also, had a side of the steamed mixed vegetables. Very excellent.
I'd say there's enough leftovers for at least 3 more meals. Had the Sesame chicken, General Tsos and lo mein. All good. It's now programmed in the cell.
I get the general tsao tofu, and it's crispy, I assume the chicken version has the same texture. And yes, there's so much that I end up eating leftovers for the next 2-3 days.
Agreed - crispy. The only other place that has food that good that I've had was Square on Square and their prices are definitely higher. Not even sure ifthey deliver up to N.Libs.
We are fortunate enough to live mere blocks from Chinatown.... Sang Kee Peking Duck House is the best. For late late night eats (and drinks) Davids Mai Lai Wa. And for some hysterical karaoke (as well as sushi, chicken hearts, and drinks) check out Yaki Tori Boy.
