Does anyone know why El Wingador's is temporarily closed? Big disappointment for the DeVilles. They had terrific food, and the staff was ultra nice. Hope they reopen soon.
I'm sorry to report that yes it has been shut down. I am not aware of any plans to re-open. EL Wingador's was owned and operated by my husbands family. If I hear anything regarding re-opening I will let everyone know.
I m not really surprised. As much as I wanted that place to succeed it was doomed from the start. The service was fine but whats good service without good food. The wings were comparable to something you'd get from Dominos or those frozen TGIFs wings you'd find at the super market. You'd think that the wing eating champ would know how to make good wings.
I think the issues with the food came from the overall problems in the place. It was a lot of family bickering. Negative energy, people not happy in there--it came though in the food.
I only went in a couple of times a month, so I never saw the negative energy. On the contrary, I thought the family members who worked there were incredibly kind. Plus, I loved seeing Bill in there, working and greeting customers -- he is a true-blue legend of blue color Philadelphians. If you do reopen, I'll take 20 wings - El Wingador style, of course.
I'm glad it didn't come across to you. In a way I'm glad its closed so I don't have to hear my FIL tell me about it. Billy wasn't the issue--he's generally a happy go lucky guy who brushes most stuff off. I'm really annoyed over the whole thing. It was a great concept and had the potential expand. There were many occasions when I wanted to smack those responsible for the closure. If I hear anything I'll post it up.
You think maybe El Wingador may want to try to re-invent as a caterer of sorts? Less overhead than a restaurant, and the name may draw softball teams, etc. looking for wings and stuff that were on the menu.
sorry but i can't say i'm surprised. they kept weird hours, and the wings were mediocre at best. decent empanadas, though. as for me...i'll be at moriarty's for my wings. yum yum yum.
The Wings at Moriarty's aren't all that bad, but why the heck don't they separate them? Now I'm kinda a wing connoisseur, having lived almost ten years an hour south of Buffalo ... however being in Rochester cultivated an appreciation for an array of wing styles outside the classic 'Buffalo' (admittedly my 2nd favorite, The Country Sweet, is an sickly sweet acquired taste). Having said that, in the NL area, I actually kinda dig Azure's sort of sweetly tinged wings.
Word. I was VERY pleased with the wings at Azure. They are meaty and the ancho-honey glaze make them delicious. Right now, they are on the top of my Best Wings list.
Is that all it is, ancho pepper and honey? Could swear there was something like cinammon or something in the mix; but I was surprised how easy wing sauces were to make once I started making some on my own. But that's been discussed on an older thread.
