I’m sitting at my desk with tears rolling down my face, writing this.
Yes it’s true we sold AZURE. Sue and I loved Northern Liberties from the day we moved here. We had the best customers anyone could find, a lot of them becoming personal friends. My staff was the best, the last year with Julio as my chef was an experience I’ll never forget. He made the crazy restaurant business a joy. Plus putting out the best food AZURE ever served here. Brandon and Todd helped me put AZURE together from the start, then little by little we developed a family of employees who we grew to love, and will miss them dearly. Anyone who knows me knows that the last year I have been living with great pain in my back. And now it’s time to retire and smell the roses. We purchased a boat and plan to travel but Northern Liberties will still be our home. I am also working hard with the new owners to keep my staff on they were the best.
Love Bob
I'm so sad to hear about the closing of one of my favorite local haunts. I've spent countless hours chatting, eating, drinking and laughing with friends or my coworkers from Feast at Azure. You will be missed, but I'm happy for Bob. Enjoy your retirement!
I just died a little inside. I'm a little sentimental about Azure as my husband and I had our rehearsal dinner there and, post-wedding, continued to frequent the place...well, frequently. Azure treated us and our dog like family.
Very sad news indeed. Best of luck in your retirement and thank you for bringing such a great place like Azure to our neighborhood. Let's hope the owners do your legacy justice.
Denial - Bob would not do that to us. He'll come back.
Bargaining - I'll order more wings. I swear.
Guilt - I haven't been there in a few weeks, I wonder if I could have ...
Anger - Ministry of Information, Ibiza, Deuce. This is not fair! Tower has something to do with this.
Depression - Maybe I should move.
Acceptance and Hope - I sure had many good times there.
Bob, thanks for creating such a great space. Amy and I are really going to miss it. But we are glad to know that we contributed a significant portion to your new yacht!!
The food at Azure surely was great, but it was the people who made it special. Now where can we spend our Friday and Saturday nights?
And the neighbors want to know: What's in store for that space? Any details are greatly appreciated.
Bob and Sue,
Congratulations on the sale of Azure. Sue-Ann and I will miss your hospitality and great food. Save a cabin on the boat for us. Btw, what’s it gona cost to fill ‘er up? Hmmmmm, is it a sail-boat?
Like most, I'm a bit shocked and depressed. Azure was always an amazing place to chill, have a few drinks, some real good food, and great conversation. Best of luck to Bob and Sue. Please somebody find out where Todd is going. I will gladly follow him. I just hope he stays in the hood!!!
bummer! me and the priest would third the notion that we will miss todd! we recently watched many a flyers game there and munched on many a taco. have fun with your retirement!
Bob & Sue,
We will miss your filet tips! Azure was the first restaurant I went to in NL. I fell in love with Northern Liberties thanks to the lovely dessert and cup of coffee my cousin and I had there when he was visiting from Florida 4 years ago.
Congratulations on your retirement...you all will be missed.
due to a verbal agreement with the new owners, who are adamant about keeping their identity and product a secret, we cannot give any details. what i can say is that they are seasoned veterans and know what they are doing. there is no doubt in my mind that they will be successful.
second, they have expresses every intention of giving the azure staff first dibs at jobs, both front and back of the house. hopefully, if all goes well, i will be making you drinks in just a few weeks.
as far as todd goes, there is an offer on the table. him staying is entirely up to him, so if you see him, perhaps you can help convince him to make what i think is the right decision .
so thanks to everyone for their support and admiration. yesterday was one of the biggest sob fests ive ever been a part of and i am so unbelievably moved by everyones reaction. we have had a ton of ups and downs over the last five years, and have been **** on many times on this board. its nice to know that our act was together at the time of our closing. i like to think that we provided great food, great service and a cool atmosphere. thank you for years of support.
I am very happy for you. It is time to smell the roses and enjoy life..It is sad but we have all made some great friends that don't have to stop with Azure closing. So with that note WHO WANTS TO GET TOGETHER AND HAVE DRINK TONIGHT? let me know.. **** THAT FOOD WAS GOOD, DRINKS and FRIENDSHIP..
I've seen many great folks come and go, here in Northern Liberties the past 30-some years but the thought of Bob & Sue sailing off is just a little bit more than I can take at the moment. If this is what you want or need, Bob & Sue, then I can understand, but you two have been so special here and I've had so many wonderful times at Azure, but I especially cherish the brief views you've provided into your personal world and I love you both. Yours has been a magnificent and complete labor of love!!!
brian - such a shame i never got to run into you guys there since we've spent so much time there lately! we need to go on a hunt for the city's second-best mahi mahi tacos!
Thank you guys all so much for the (almost) 5 years that we've been here. It's truly been a great run. We're leaving the business, but not the neighborhood and we'll certainly be hanging out at the new place. These guys are amazing and I think you'll all be delighted with what they bring to the table. They have the energy and knowledge to make this place better then ever... with a little luck you'll know everyone who works there. They have everyone's number and say they'll be contacting them as soon as they're ready to open. Hopefully it will be in 2 weeks... Bob will be working hand in hand with them to make this happen. Again thank you all, many of you have become our dear friends and we'll never forget you. OK so I'm crying again. Azure gone, but not forgotten... Brandon, Todd,Julio and the entire staff are awesome and they'll hopefully be back soon.
Love
Sue
I cant believe it... We were just talking tonight about how we love to go back to the old neighborhood for the great food (especially the Fillet Tips and the ceasar salad, both the best in the city) Enjoy the retirement, and are the new owners keeping the name and menu?
Wow. Bob and Sue, it's been such a pleasure getting to know you, and I will always have many happy memories of Azure. Congratulations on a well-deserved retirement - we will miss you and the restaurant!
Azure has been "home" for me as well all who live here. I guess I have now lost my "satelite office". I have lived in center city for 40 years and I have never experienced a warmer place to hang, drink, dine and meet extraordinary people in all my life. Bob and Sue have come to be my best friends and I wish them all the best with starting their new journey. There has not been one thing about Azure that I have not enjoyed. Brandon, Todd, Elaine and all the Azure staff have been fabulous. Julio's food, what can I say? Everything about Azure rocks! I sincerely hope that all the staff stays and that the new owners keep up the good Karma that exists.
Thankfully, I will continue to benefit from the warmth and friendship from Bob, Sue and Brandon. Bob and Sue, enjoy your life, you two really deserve it! There is no reason why we all can't continue to enjoy breaking bread and tipping our glasses all together in the new place!
I love you guys dearly!
Let's continue to support and welcome the new owners to the neighborhood!
When I received the phone call Tuesday morning I refused to believe it. I recently started calling Azure my home....just the past 6 months. But in those 6 months, I made so many friends there (Nina, baby!) and especially Sue and Bob. Their warmth was beyond compare...they truely made me feel part of their family...more than any other establishment the past 2 years I've lived in NoLibs. There were many cold winter nights that I just didn't feel like sitting at home by myself, so instead would sit with them with Maggie at my feet. Just like I was at home.
Brandon, Todd, Janina....best bartenders ever and I do hope that the new owners plan to bring them on.
Bob, I plan to knock up on your door to give you a big hug and kiss to wish you well on your retirement. You deserve it!!!
WTF!! This cannot be true. I am soo sad to hear this news. Congrats on the retirement however. It will be hard to say goodbye to Azure. The best bar/restaurant in this neighborhood....
Congrats, Bob & Sue. Thanks for the pleasure of Azure. It is hands-down our fav neighborhood spot and was a major factor in our decision to move to NL. Always our go-place when we didn't want to cook for ourselves and we have never been disappointed by the food, drink and folks that work at and populate the place.
Azure will be missed, but if all works out, the crew and patrons will stay.
Best of luck in retirement - you've certainly earned it!
