Election turnout - what's the word?

Any feedback on turnout in the neighborhood?

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

My boyfriend and I were at the International High School (4th st.) polling place around 7:30 and there was maybe 10 people there. It was early... I was expecting it to be busier, though.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

John Doc has more visibility then Clinton and Obama combined.

I voted this morning in Fishtown and saw nothing but John Doc. Headed down Broad Street to work, more John Doc. Small Clinton rally at City Hall. More John Doc on South Broad.

Beyond that, it was pretty quiet.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

We're in the 5th Ward (you know, vote early and vote often), 23rd division. We vote at 6th and Brown.
At 9:30 we were #100 and 101, so that division is doing pretty well - but no lines.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

I just returned from voting at the Bodine school.
I was number 69, which I thought was low for 12:30 PM

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

I went down to 4th and George around 12:30. I asked about the turn out and the lady said I was the 182nd person to vote. People should be pouring in after work.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a high turnout.

It's nice out. Lots of new voters.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

Metro had me bracing for a potential riot but it was nothing of the sort :( I was the only person voting at 6th and Girard but it was kind of a party atmosphere with some wooing chicks eliciting honks from the passing traffic.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

I got to Core Fitness (6th and Brown) to vote about 7:30 and had to wait for about 8 people (I was #35). Maybe a 5 or so minute wait.

Shorter time waiting than the Mayoral Primary, but I think that is because the ballot was simpler. (The mayoral primary had all the city council races and referendums and what-not).

I suspect it will be a longer wait tonight as people go after work, but each polling place only seems to represent about 2 blocks worth of houses, so it's hard to imagine it ever actually being that bad. (It surprises me that people who live within 4 blocks of me seem to vote in about 6 different places; other places I have lived seemed to have fewer voting places with more machines each.)

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

I vote at the M Room when it opens and usually have no wait, or at most 2 people ahead of me. I got there at 7:05 today and was 15th inline. By the time I voted there were close to 20 people in line.

I was impressed.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

Just got over to Bodine High School at 4:00 PM. Numbers there are currently in their average range for the whole day, so I think we'll see an above average day. To quote Matt Ruben, "not at the 2004 general election levels," but busy for a primary.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

Just returned from Core Fitness (6th & Brown), middle of the afternoon so I figured there wouldn't be a line but the place was basically packed, it was very inspiring! Poll workers said turnout is big...potentially, real big.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

I went to M Room around 10:30 am. There were 3 Doc hacks, 1 Dicker hack. There were 3 people in front of me. Took me 5 minutes tops. The M Room is always a pleasure - never a line.

I've talked to friends in Lower Merion and they report extremely high turnout with lots of 1st time voters showing up.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

I voted in the middle of the afternoon and there was no one at my polling place in Fishtown. There were a couple of guys from the Dougherty and Farnese campaigns. Everyone just looked bored.

Anyone know which bars are going to have returns on tonight?

According to FooboozMemphis Taproom will be having their (grand or soft?) opening tonight, showing both the returns _and_ the Flyers game if I'm reading the post right.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

A friendly response: Before we leave this thread, I wanted to respond to the person who felt that there were only about 2 blocks worth of housing per polling division. The residents who vote at 6th and Brown encompass the area from Spring Garden to Poplar, and from the west side of 4th Street to the east side of 6th, so there are a lot of people in that division - I would guess about 500. Just wanted to let you know.

Re: Election turnout - what's the word?

I don't know what the 2004 election levels were. I'm sure it had loads of independent voters and maybe even Republlicans; but WHYY is reporting 55% of registered dems showed up for the primary, which breaks a record set in 1980's primary.
