Just thinkin, your thinkin is about as clear as your typin'.
Plenty of people including myself have "been in business". Here's how your strategy would play out. I go to your restaurant and wonder where the Yards is. I hear it's because you boycott Yards bec. Yards serves Yards at its own brewpub a quarter mile away. Well, F that, and F you and your paranoid sour grapes "principles." From then on my taste for Yards in the neighborhood will be catered by a more confident restaurant/bar in the area. In fact, since you have put your business on the par with KFC/Taco Bell I'm not particularly inclined to frequent your alleged establishment if Yards isn't on the taplist.
How's that massive business-strategy inflicted bullet would in your foot doing?
Man this is a stupid point... so what if Yards opens a brewpub? Bravo for them I say! You can get Yards at almost any decent bar/pub in this city so how is one more place going to matter to your bottom line? Sell Victory then or any of the other bazillion wonderful regional beers we have in this city. Yards is as ubiquitous as water in this area, it is not as if you are the sole purveyor of such goods. This is a beer city. We consume massive, copious and generous quantities of beer here daily... we could open a couple more beer halls in Fishtown, Northern Liberties and the area's around here and they would all thrive. It is what we do. We drink beer. We LOVE beer. We talk about it, we cook with it, we buy it day and night, it flows like a river here... so don't worry. We will still drink whatever your pour. (and them too... we will drink their beer as well)
Most people visit brewery brew pubs (which are selling their own brews, imagine that) because of interest in that particular company.
Most people visit beer bar/restaurants for a VARIETY of different brews offered including one or 2 from a brewery/brew pub a short distance away.
Its part of the evolution of brewing --many places all over the country have restaurants attached. It helps to generate interest, attract new customers, and off-set opperating expenses.
If you are that concerned about "competition" maybe you should focus on promoting your own business.
Me? I don't look at other bar/restaurants or brew pubs as "competition" So if this were to happen with Yards I'd still happily have one on tap and some bottles. It isn't competition. Its adapting to survive in an ever-evolving market.
Do you not carry Dock Street because they have a brewpub? Sly Fox? Victory? Southampton?
Yards having a brewpub makes sense. I think it will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and help invigorate the waterfront area without having to resort to gambling. Put 8 brewpubs down there!
No one's P & moaning here but you, guy who stopped serving pepsi at his restaurant but doesn't own a restaurant. No one's correcting your spelling. People are telling you you're "just thinking" is flawed and/or you're not very bright. That is all. Keep reading, since you obviously don't have anything to say in reponse to consensus of objection.
