Ebert, and how Dylan always brings out the best in him ...
There's a great 1/2* review of Bob Dylan, his fans, and the new movie _Masked and Anonymous_ over at Roger Ebert's site. I'm taking it out of context [you've got to read the whole thing], but I really got a kick out of the following quote:
"Perhaps Dylan's genius is to take simple ideas and make them impenetrable. Since he cannot really sing, there is the assumption that he cannot be performing to entertain us, and that therefore there must be a deeper purpose."
Re: Ebert, and how Dylan always brings out the best in him ...
Oy vey! I haven't seen the Dylan flick yet, but given that Ebert gave "Gigli" a thumbs-up, I wouldn't put too much stock in his assessments. I also think Ebert is starting to lose his mind --- and his sense of humor.
Lest we forget who authored "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" ?
