Unsure if anyone else has seen but there has been an advert in the Courier newspaper for the past couple of weeks about the rehoming of 2 ex-racing greyhounds living in terrible conditions, as a greyhound owner I'm a bit concerned about them!
the link for the advert is http://adzone.dcthomson.co.uk/browse/search_cats_results.php?id=28&sortby=price+desc&subcatsid=141&searchfor=greyhound&wordsearchtype=and&privatetrade=A
Bit unsure about contacting myself as wouldnt be quite sure what i could say?
I have read this advert online, states they are in Forfar. Seems a bit strange to say in the ad they are living in terrible conditions, if you were the owner most wouldn't admit to that, or if someone has rescued them and looking to rehome you would think they would no longer be in terrible living conditions. It is really worrying though, esp if you have seen this ad more than once Claire.
It might be an ad of one of their neighbours who is familiar with the ordeal of the hounds. Though it should have been reported to one of the animal welfare organisations. It often happens that the neighbours experience watching such situations but have no courage to sort it out or just fear of being assaulted by the owners afterwards.
Anyway we can only surmise if it is not checked properly. I wish I lived nearer and my English was better, especially speaking by phone
I saw this advert and asked about it in another thread but no one replied. I too thought it was a bit odd and it was in both the Courier and the Evening Telegraph. It was a mobile number on the advert altho earlier in the thread I saw someone say they were in Forfar. Would be interested to hear if anyone has found out what it is all about as it did worry me a little the way it was written.
Thanks for link Claire. I've noted the contact number & I'm gonna give it a call in the morning. I can't stop thinking about these 2 greys . Like Fiona said too, I find it really odd that they admit to them living in terrible conditions & why hasn't animal welfare been informed of this? I'll see what I can find out tomorrow & post to let you know . Fingers crossed they're ok now
Joan - I've looked for the other thread about this ad but can't find it. Have you any idea how long the ad's been in Courier?
Oh that would be fabulous. Been raking my brains about what I would do cos I've already got 2 greys of my own & would struggle with another 2 & working full time
Your post doesn't say who you are though
I phoned about this ad. Spoke to a lady who clarified the "living in terrible conditions" was talking about the kennels they're in being freezing cold. I told her I wanted to give them a home but she wasn't prepared to let them go so far away (I live in Alva, Clackmannanshire) as she wanted to be able to keep an eye on them. I did tell her that I already had 2 greys of my own too. If anyone wants to contact me about this post feel free to e-mail me or call 07766138570
Thank you Shona for the info. To be honest I do not understand the lady...She has desperately been seekeng a home for the dogs for quite a few weeks. She said the dogs were living in terrible conditions. Now when someone wants to help she is saying she is not prepared...due to the distance. On top of that the dogs are kept in the kennels. Instead of asking for references from a reliable source (i.e.GRF)she prefers to hold them in the terrible kennels because she wants to keep an eye on them...
The advert was in last week I think at least. Does seem odd that she would refuse a home just because it was at a distance from where she is...think stan/polish's suggestion about references could be a way to go as it seems a real shame to keep them in unsuitable conditions when a lovely warm home is being offered?!
thanks for phoning Shona. I really cannot understand why the owner would rather have these greys living in kennels rather than in a warn home, regardless of how far away it is!
One of these dogs is coming to me on Saturday. I do not know what has happened to the other one. The man is a very nasty man and has had the pOlice and SSPCA at his doorstep. It is all complicated and the lady who had the ad is one of life's do gooders with the right heart but the wrong techniques. She thinks every dog rescued goes right into a fairy tail home immediately.
I called the woman and asked if i could have them but she wasn't keen as she wanted someone older to have them.. Good that at least one is getting away though
I can see that the lady had more demands...Well age is less important than the heart... Anyway good of her to have noticed the ordeal of the hounds. Hopefully both of them will be happy in their new homes.
The Grey came to us as expected on Saturday. He is called Road!!!! yes I know.
Road is in peak physical condition and is a handsome big boy. He is undersocialised and is only used to men and other Greys, but we are working on that. He is very clean in Kennels and is coming along nicely.. The other one they managed to get out has gone to a home. That dog was aparently more socialised.
