They're SO cute but they're not called whippets for nothing - my fantastic whippet/greyhound cross (Mr Bean) had that whippet tail, a wonderful expressive instrument that conveyed his every mood, but also lethal at coffee-table level (at least Sydney and Stanley are a bit smaller!). Whippet tails are used so enthusiastically that they're prone to splitting, when they become a 'flying red paintbrush' - dive for the tail and hold it still till you can bind it and 'stem the flow', then keep very clean till it heals to prevent infection. I still smile when I remember Bean's wag turning into a complete helicopter motion in anticipation of 'walkies'. The joy is completely infectious.
