corns

Have at last seen why Archie has a bad limp -he has a corn which has now revealed itself-how do we treat this? is a visit to the vet necessary Jimmy?

Re: corns

Ace had a corn the winter before last when we had all that snow. We took him to the vet and he gave us Fuciderm Gel to put on it and we had to keep it covered. This eventually worked, but sometimes they have to be sugically removed. Either way a trip to the vets is the best idea.

Re: corns

Hi Heather,
Sometimes duct tape put on the corn for about a fortnight has had good results.
A visit to the vet will mean that the corn will be pared away and the dog will have relief until it comes back.
It can be removed surgically with a 50% success rate.
The last resort would be an amputated toe.
Good luck.
Jimmy.

Re: corns

Thanks folks! oh dear I never thought he might have to have an op for this -but a trip to the vet methinks-we have tried ductape but he is hobbling so much I hate to see him like that .

Re: corns

Hi

Our greyhound, Polly, has really suffered with her corns. We have tried everything under the sun including surgery which did not work for her.

Our advice would be to get it pared down by the vet, to file the corn yourself inbetween visits to the vet with a nail file, painkillerrs for bad days and as much as possible avoid hard surfaces and walk your dog on grass -that is what will make your dog the most comfortable.

The corn on her left paw eventually "died" and now causes her no pain so we have fingers crossed for the one on her left paw to do the same

Really hope you find somehting that works

Re: corns

Thanks folks-here is the latest-Archie is going in on Tuesday to have a general anaesthetic for paring of the corn, tooth cleaning and a wee lump taken off his shoulder so everything done at once!At the moment he is on metacalm and antibiotics so is feeling v sorry for himself,im worried about the anaesthetic but the vet knows about greyhounds.will let you all know.

Re: corns

Archie has a temperature so was sent home from the vets with more antibiotics and going back on Monday-what a fuss for a corn

Re: corns

Well Archie had his op yesterday a full MOT this included removal of the offending corn, dentalcleaning ,a little cyst taken off his shoulder and nails trimmed.Poor soul he didnt know where he was last night and slept upstairs with us which is unusual. He has eaten breakfast and is away up to sleep again-lets hope the corn is gone for good PS he has a lovely smile

Re: corns

I hope this sorts out Archie's corn. Billy had one removed a few months ago and fingers crossed hasn't regrown. It is horrible to see them limping with the pain.
