Nice poem I found! "Dog Dreaming"

I have always liked poems, this one is by By WS mervin;

I often laugh at my Trixie twitching, wagging and whining away in her dreams, I found this poem about dogs dreaming, thought it was nice and that I would share with you lovely people! He talks about how dogs dream often about playing and the people they spend time with, but most importantly, of you, the dog's mum / dad and how you are the center of the dogs universe. Enjoy!

"The paws twitch in a place of chasing
Where the whimper of this seeming-gentle creature
Rings out terrible, chasing tigers. The fields
Are licking like torches, full of running,
Laced odors, bones stalking, tushed leaps.
So little that is tamed, yet so much
That you would find deeply familiar there.
You are there often, your very eyes,
The unfathomable knowledge behind your face,
The mystery of your will, appraising.
Such carnage and triumph; standing there
Strange even to yourself, and loved, and only
A sleeping beast knows who you are."

Re: Nice poem I found! "Dog Dreaming"

Sean,
I loved the poem, and it is so true for greyhounds, as they seem much closer to their roots than many other breeds. They love their comfort and their humans but there is always the call of the wild, whispering to their instincts and urging them to break free and return to Nature.
Every greyhound has to find their own place between wild and domesticated. Some just dream, some never settle, and most are somewhere in between. We have to take that on board when we rehome them.
