Cracked Paw

Hi, looking for advice/suggestions. Megan has a slight crack in her back right paw. Looking for best way to treat it. There is no blood showing and no infection (pretty sure nothing imbedded) but just making her limp every so often. Don't think it warrants a vet visit. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Cracked Paw (Help)

Our Billy had a corn and part of his treatment at our Vets was to keep the pad soft and moisturized.

You can use baby oil, Vasoline or udder cream bought at farm shops but we found the best was Sudo Cream (used for nappy rash). Some Greyhound pads are more prone than others to becoming dry and start cracking and need moisturizing for some reason.

You can apply the moisturizing cream as often as required till it is messaged into the pad

If Megan continues to limp though it would be worth a check at the vets as gravel and dirt can get in the cracks in the pad.

Hope that is of some help.

Re: Cracked Paw (Help)

Thanks for that help. The limping seems to be improving and there is still no sign of anything bar the slight crack. Will give the sudocreme a try and keep an eye on her.

Re: Cracked Paw (Help)

Hi,
You can use Propolis cream (7 or 10%). You may google it and get on line.

Re: Cracked Paw (Help)

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. We did take Megan to the vet who said it was an inflamed toe. She is now on anti-inflamatories for a couple of days and we'll see the outcome. Will keep you informed.

Re: Cracked Paw (Help)

When Izzy was in to get a corn removed a few months back the vet suggested that she took a substance called Gomega leading up to the op., so that her pads were in the best of condition to aid a good recovery. It was going to cost about £40+, and when I questioned the need for this the vet said to take Seven Seas Cod Liver Oil capsules instead - because "It did the same job". Basically it was Omega 3 which was the ingredient doing the good for the pads - this maybe something which you consider trying.
