Just returned home from the vet with Mikey. Confirmed he has the onset of early renal disease and very high blood pressure to boot. He will now be on a special diet of renal food and has to take a Fortekor tablet every day to try and reduce his blood pressure. The good news is the scans today did not show any tumours anywhere thank god. Results of his latest urine and blood tests should be through later this week.
We will just have to deal with the wee accidents in the house as best we can - as he always seems to go to the same spot in the hall I have been putting a shower curtain down with a huge training pad on top - better than nothing lol.
Another positive is that the vet says he is still a big strong boy and with the right care we will get through this for now, what the future holds who knows - we'll take it as it comes.
My thanks to all at Inglis Vet Hospital for their the love and attention, their support should see us through this difficult time. He's booked in for next Monday at their therapy clinic to check his stats and get some relaxing massage pampering!
Just so glad to have my boy home............... X
Thanks for the update Isobel, and it must be great to have Mikey home again. We very much hope that his kidney disease and blood pressure can be controlled and that his blood and urine tests come back clear. As you say, you will take it as it comes in the longer term. Vets love greyhounds because they are generally such good patients and I'm sure Mikey will LOVE his massage. You have given him everything to live for, which can make a huge difference. Best wishes to you all and please keep us posted.
