When we lost our Billy over the Rainbow Bridge last month it was a terrible time for us as we had never been through the experience of loosing a family pet before. However the positives of being owned by a Greyhound out number the negatives of loosing your beloved family member.
After being at the dog show and seeing so many beautiful dogs including the Homeless Hounds and with Billy's approval as in his will and testament.
If Billy could have left a will and testament like what we do he would have left this.
So we all had a visit to the kennels on the 31st of May 2016 to see Celia and Jimmy. They thought they had the ideal boy to go with our Lassie and we took him for a walk with Lassie. It was like he had known her for years even though he would be Lassie's Toy boy as there is nine years between them. Lassie even had a rest in his crate. We loved him and Lassie got on with him so We decided to adopt him or he was adopting us.
He had his boys operation on the Tuesday the 1st of June and we wanted to give him time to recover so picked him up on Saturday 4th June.
He is three years old and his name is ACE.
He is getting on great in the house and has been an angel when out for walks even ignoring cats which is quite surprising.
He has started to get his fan club as everyone is wanting to say hello to him
He is sleeping till about 6.30 going out for toilet break and then back to bed till after 8am does get lonely so have been spending the last few hours with him and is quite settled.
We are able to eat our own food and he is not expecting it to be his which is impressive in just a few days.
Celia and Jimmy said he was an intelligent dog and he certainly is.
Once again Celia and Jimmy have matched the right Greyhound with the right owners, They do know their Greyhounds.
I can not praise their expertise when it comes to finding the right homes for their Greyhounds they have a definate gift.
Thank you for allowing us to bring him home with all three of us and trusting us with a very special boy ACE.
Glad to hear Ace has settled in so well. It's certainly a skill getting the right dog matched to the right family but it sounds like Jimmy and Celia have done it again. I hope you have many happy years ahead
Actually George and Morag, it was the right family who came and took Ace.
Lassie took one look at him and grabbed him telling him " you're coming with me "
Thank you for taking him into your home. Big cuddles are sent to both of them.
Jimmy and Celia.
I think that's the best tribute you could give Billy. When we lost our last greyhound we went without for a few months but it was awful coming back to an empty home and not having her sitting with us and following us about. I sometimes wonder if we should have got more dogs sooner, but then again if we'd done it differently we probably wouldn't have found GRF or Kell & Lucy (and Boss and Trina later), so perhaps things happen for a reason.
Anyway, enough of my rambling on - congratulations to Ace, and you yourself, Morag and Lassie
Steve,
I beleive life follows a path for us all.
We always wonder if we had done that differently would it have been better or worse we simply don't know.
You have to live in the present as that is all we actually know and then live with the decisions.
We always try to think things through first but sometimes you cant because life is not controlable just your actions.
Billy came along when we needed each other and not surprisingly Ace was there again when we needed each other.
Like you we have made decisions about adopting our first dog (Billy) from G.R.F. If we had adopted somewhere else would not have met so many friends with the same love for Greyhounds as we have now and we call it the extended G.R.F. family which we are lucky to be part of.
Celia and Jimmy are probaly right Ace and Lassie probaly had a pact going that they would go home together.
Another nice thing for us is both Billy and Lassie's Linage are in Ace's linage so Billy is still with us in Ace.
We are just delighted to be trusted with this wonderful Greyhound named Ace he has the qualities of a Gentleman and will certainly be a great ambassador for the wonderful breed.
Thanks to Celia and Jimmy for thingking about us being suitable when he became available. We are honoured to have him in Billy's Palace living like a Prince Ace with his Queen Lassie.
I met Ace whilst I was at the kennels recently and what a laid back chilled boy he appeared to be. I gave hi a treat and he couldn't be bothered to get up so wriggled his way across to it.
Enjoy Ace as I am sure I will with Smash but I am sure King Billy is never far from you're thoughts as my John is. I am sure King Billy will be smiling down, content in the knowledge you have adopted another hound and showing Ace how loved Billy was in the exactly the same way.
We am sorry to hear about Billie. We remember him from the old days at Kinghorn and he was indeed a very handsome boy who was a pleasure to meet every Sunday and take for a few laps of the field. We recently lost Gip and Rosie who we adopted just before you got Billie in February 2008. We have a new girl Heidi who is a little angel but we will always treasure the memories of our beautiful brindle boy and girl and we know this is how it will be for you with your handsome boy, Billie.
