Flea and worm treatments: advice please!

Hi, any advice on suitable flea and worm treatments for greyhounds welcome, our dog Harris was initially treated rather expensively with Milbemax via vet due to a heavy roundworm infestation, is Drontal OK for greyhounds as I can get it online through Animed direct at a reasonable price. And what can anyone recommend for spot on flea treatments? Animed direct sell Effipro (contains Fipronil), would this be safe to use please? Thanks in advance, Sonia :)

Re: Flea and worm treatments: advice please!

Hi Sonia,

I use Frontline Combo for fleas and ticks. It is applied monthly and is massaged into the back of the neck. Kitty loves the massage and it has proved very effective.

We did use Drontal initially for worms, but Kitty didn't like it, although it is safe for greyhounds. She now takes Milprazon. This comes in tablet form and is taken every three months. It can be given as a treat, but Kitty is not good at taking pills in general, so I crush them in a pill crusher and put them in her food.

Both medications are safe for greyhounds (although they may not be suitable for a few dogs if they have allergies) and certainly seem effective. Kitty has has never had any side effects from either medication. I get both these from my vet (who is experienced with greyhounds), but I can't advise on price as I belong to my vets' practice plan and the medications and also her vaccinations are included in the monthly fee.

Hope this helps.
