Kulafu is a creation of Francisco Reyes and his friend Pedrito Reyes, who happens to be a veteran competitor to both Tarzan and Mowgli, although the latter inspired him more. Like Mowgli, he is a native, albeit being raised by Pedtrito Reyes’ rather mundane take on the Amomongos, gorilla like mythical creatures with long claw-like nails from Hiligaynon mythology.
His wife is also a tough cookie (similar to Maureen O’Sullivan as Jane Parker) and they have a Korak-like son who appeared in his own (seldom seen) spinoff. The comics themselves, which also spawned their movie adaptations, were usually translated into various other Philippine languages from Tagalog (especially Cebuano), but they seldom were translated into Spanish for the Latin American markets. https://www.reddit.com/r/FilipinoHistory/comments/1dzgpjq/cebuano_trans_of_kulafu_and_kenkoy_oldest_ph/
