Report from Sparklefest

I did a long report that vanished into cyberspace. Don't have time to recreate it now. Suffice to say it was a great show. Third festival/showcase type set I have seen from Chris Stamey in the past year. Leaves me hungering for a longer show than 35 minutes(with Peter at the Alejandro Escovedo Benefit last November) or 55 minutes (at the Eno River Festival) or last night at Sparklefest (about 45 minutes)
Opened with an almost Grateful Dead-like tuning jam that broke into Something Came Over Me after they were introduced. The nearly ten minute version of the song contained a chunk of Tomorrow Never Knows.
Next, Kierkegard, followed by Ride, In Spanish Harlem, I Want to Break Your Heart (with a mention that Peter is coming to Cary's Amphitheater on Friday). He did the V.O.T.E. Public Service Announcement, followed by And I Love Her (with a remark about Brian Wilson's Smile album finally getting released). Caitlyn Cary joined the band on stage to provide vocal harmony for 14 Shades of Green to end the show. Wish I could be at the Cradle tonight but it is too far and too late to drive back with work in the morning.
