Re: Irving Plaza 1984

Was that the night Johnny Hickman's The Unforgiven was on the bill too? Four guitars in that band ...which in theory... shoulda' been cool. But. As I recall, that band was pretty laughable, spaghetti western shtick-ola! Johnny's since redeemed himself. Phew.

I think that particular dB's Xmas show @ Irving was '85 tho. ...? The week after we saw The Cult in full Love mode and w/the great Clintons opening o'er The Ritz. Your recollections ring bells tho, so maybe it was '84.

Saw the band a couple years in a row in December for a while there ... my 46 year old brain isn't as sharp as it once was, ah well.

Re: Irving Plaza 1984

I do think you're right: it was 85. I don't remember anyone else on the bill, though, only Alex Chilton (who was great, and played really amazing guitar without a pick).

Re: Irving Plaza 1984

One thing I remember from that night is telling Alex that it seemed weird that he would be opening for us. Somehow or other, he misconstrued what I meant and thought I was trying to be humiliating. He didn't speak to me again for several years. I felt horrible about that misunderstanding. The version of 'Jesus Christ' was so much fun for me, as I had always loved the music Alex Chilton gave us in Big Star--still do.
