Happenstance -- crickets?

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I can't find the info elsewhere on this (excellent) web site....

In the song Happenstance from Repercussion, at about 2:30 (as the "she walks into the room" verse starts), I hear something that sounds like chirping crickets. Anyone know if this is the real thing, or a studio concoction? If the latter, would love to hear how they did it.

Reminds me of how The Band put all those unusual sounds on their early albums.

Re: Happenstance -- crickets?

"Session crickets", according to Peter (?) in the sleeve notes for the IRS CD re-issue.

Phil

Re: Happenstance -- crickets?

Yes, that's correct. I think we had a sound effects record for them. No live crickets were harmed in the recording of "Happenstance".

Re: Happenstance -- crickets?

Thank you both -- I've only ever seen the CC double reissue of SfD/R, which appears to omit that info.

Re: Re: Happenstance -- crickets?

The crickets were from the sound effects reels at George Martin's studio AIR, I think probably recorded by/for the BBC. I think of them as Beatle crickets.

Re: Re: Re: Happenstance -- crickets?

yes, they always reminded me of the beginning of "sun king".

Re: Re: Re: Happenstance -- crickets?

Could they be the same crickets? I wish I were home with my CDs!
