Some Love

As I sit listening to the new stuff we recorded in January, I realize I need to send you, our loyal supporters, some love. I am so grateful for the time and energy you've lavished on our rock band, most of which seems to fall under the category of 'grassroots marketing'. I've met many of you over the years in one town or another across the globe. Knowing that you have not stopped enjoying the music of The dB's after so many years makes our new enterprise together even sweeter. These new songs are very true to what we've always been about--melodies like flypaper, big muscular rythym and words of oblique wisdom and bemusement. Should the band become humongous in its latter-day incarnation, reaping all those benefits we might've wanted in the 1980's (well, maybe not ALL of them), it will be in no small part due to our fans' patience and affection. That's a big reward in itself. I so enjoy this board and all y'all who inhabit here, and our landlord Jake is to be commended especially, once again, for his tireless attention to the website, despite his inordinately busy life. I look greatly forward to recording and playing with Chris, Gene and Will again, and I hope you all get at least as much pleasure from it, too. On to Chicago!

Re: Some Love

Hey Peter,

Thanks so much for that! I first met you in 1983 and you've always been a totally classy guy. I can tell you that the original dBs were definitely the template that Tim Lee and I used when we put together the Windbreakers (though we never came close) and I still remain a huge fan. I can't wait to hear the new stuff!

Peter:
I'll just second Bobby's sentiments here.
On the handful of occasions that we've met (My favorite meet remains the Double Door in Charlotte in 1997, where I was somehow pressed into service to help unload the C.Drifters' van), you've been nothing but a class act.
Ditto for Chris and Gene, whom I thoroughly enjoyed interviewing (Chris, this spring for Pop Culture Press and Gene many years ago for the W-S Journal).
Glad to see you guys are a going concern again -- and looking forward to the new record.

Best,
John Micek.

Re: Re: Re: Some Love

Peter, the fact that you (and Will and Chris, on occasion) come on here and give us the skinny on the dB happenings is a large part of why you still have the fan base that you do. Great songs AND folks that seem to care whether we are listening or not? What more could a fan ask for?!

Re: Some Love

Hi Peter,

It is an absolute pleasure to administer this web site.

You guys have done so much to be proud of over the years. I've only heard bits of three of the new tracks - but I can honestly say that the new material is something very special. I can't wait to have a CD package in my hands!

Thank you for letting me be a part of your lives.

Jake
