Grains close mixed in Chicago Thursday

CHICAGO, Oct. 9 (UPI) --

Grains closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade, while stock markers fell for the seventh straight day Wall Street Thursday.

Corn was up 10 3/4 to up 12 1/4, soybeans were up 16 to up 16 3/4, wheat was off 1 1/2 to off 3 1/4 and oats were up 4 1/2.

Corn closed higher on an Export Sales Report indicating the week's exports were higher than expected. Wheat prices fell although Japan is expected to initiate new weekly tenders Friday. Soybeans gained as harvest expectations have decreased slightly.

The prices:

Corn: Dec 4.38 1/4, up 10 3/4; Mar 4.55 3/4, up 11 3/4; May 4.67 1/2, up 11 3/4; Jul 4.78 1/4, up 12 1/4.

Soybeans: Nov 9.80, up 16; Jan 9.95 1/2, up 16 1/4; Mar 10.09 1/2, up 16, May 10.19 3/4, up 16 3/4.

Wheat: Dec 6.04 3/4, off 3 1/4; Mar 6.26, off 3; May 6.40 3/4, off 2 1/4; Jul 6.54 1/2, off 1 1/2.

Oats: Dec 2.97 1/2, up 4 1/2; Mar 3.14 1/2, up 4 1/2; May 3.26, up 4 1/2; Jul 3.37 1/2, up 4 1/2.
