Re: John

Does anyone know the words to "the Toy Boy"? a poem written by John & published in the 60's in McCalls or some other womens mag with a picture of him sitting with a large teddy bear on the floor...
I know abt 90% of it by heart; I'm wanting to get the words I'm missing...can you help me?

The Toy Boy
I don't believe a word of it,
I think it's too absurd of it.
It's just an old wives tale I'll bet,
The silliest & softest yet,
Imagine if it walked & that,
Surely it would crush us flat,
It's such a giant thing you know,
All in all it goes to show,
How stupid can you be?

This was Ralph the Elephant,
Talking loud & eloquent,
Bossing all the bears & cats(?)
All the cars & policemen's hats.
Shouting down the wise old shoe
Who said he was the one who knew.
"I don't care what you say to me,
I've been on his foot, you see."
And he had.

The clock struck 8, as clocks will do
at 8 o'clock, that's nothing new
Except that this clock never would
Unless you asked it if it could.
The clock obligingly confered,(?)
"I will not chime unless I'm heard!"
It was an artist so you see
It didn't like to chime for free.
You know how it is.

Suddenly, the room went dead
A little voice rose from the bed,
"Is anybody there?" it spoke,
"or is this someone's kind of joke?
I could have sworn I heard a voice.
Perhaps me granny made the noise,
Her early morning coughing fit,
As she gets her ciggy lit.
but I doubt it."

????????
And elephant and Carol Cow
they must've moved, I wonder how
???????
And so he went & told them all
But suddenly he felt so small
Because they took him in the car,
To see that aweful Dr. Parr
Who certified him; there you are.

I think I'm missing a whole verse, too.
