Greyhound puppy

Does anybody on this forum have any experience of integrating a 'grey' puppy into a household with two ex-racers already well settled; have the opportunity of an 8 month old male. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Greyhound puppy

Hi Jock,

For what it's worth my experience is that an ex-racer will accept a new puppy of his own breed without problems. I will ask Jimmy to give you some advice but he won't be home until later this evening. Good luck, you should be fine.

John

Re: Greyhound puppy

Hi Jock,
A greyhound puppy will integrate with adult greyhounds. A male puppy is best with female adults. If the puppy gets mischievous the adults will not be long in discipling him without seriously harming him.
Introduce them gradually first. Remember he is coming into the other dogs' home. For some time do not let the puppy eat near the adults. They might bite him if he goes near their food.
Remember don't over welcome the puppy. He will think he is the centre of attraction and the adult dogs could get jealous.
Go for it and have a lot of fun. Just keep a close eye on things until the adults accept him.
Jimmy.
