Hello everyone!
I'd be curious to know how you and the loincloth have met.
Regarding myself, I don't know really. My earliest memory about the matter was that I, so to speak, gladly lost the battles and wars for America when playing Cowboys and Indians because the Indians wore loincloths.
And many, many crucifixions disappointed me because Jesus Christ had just some physically impossible piece of fabric before His genitals.
And, to be honest, the loincloth became something of a sexual fetish for me.
Well, things develop. It might be already 20 years ago when I stopped wearing conventional ("Western") underwear. Rokushaku fundoshi make perfect underwear underneath trousers. Since then, only loincloth as the most basic garment for me.
How about you?
The idea of wearing a loincloth came to me in June 2009, following two pieces of very bad news: the announcement that my father had colorectal cancer, and then, a week later, a close friend becoming disabled after a cycling accident. I wasn't exactly in a happy place at the time, but for some reason, I re-read an old comic book called *Rahan, Fils des âges farouches* (Rahan, Son of the Savage Ages). In it, Rahan travels the world wearing nothing but a loincloth. I wondered what it would be like to do the same. So, I made a loincloth and went for a walk in the forest. I loved it. I felt better. And ever since then, I haven't been able to go without hiking in a loincloth.

Sorry for your relatives.
But I find the difference in loincloth origins quite interesting.
It started with Disney's Tarzan for me when I was a young kid. Ever since then I was obsessed with Tarzan to the point I would scrounge through YouTube for any videos and even look up how to become Tarzan or plot out where I'd land in Africa if I built a boat and sailed there across the Atlantic lol.
I also ended up watching George of the Jungle 2 (didn't watch the first one until just a few months ago) and that definitely helped spurred it on a bit more.
Every now and then growing up, before I swapped to briefs in high school, I would cut up a pair of my boxer briefs into a loincloth by cutting out the crotch and butt sections and making the sides of the legs into the front and back panels. I'd crawl around my room and act like an ape in them. At one point when I was around 13-15, a few times I would go into the woods behind the condo we lived in at the time and strip down to one of those makeshift loincloths and climb a few trees and crawl around like a gorilla and ook like Tarzan. I only did this in like 5 to 10 minute bursts though.
In hindsight this is mortifying but thankfully my mom does not remember any of this, but a few times I had written in my letters to Santa, asking for a loincloth like Tarzan's. One time I even tried to make one out of printer paper and brown marker and scotch tape. It was about as uncomfortable as it sounds.
As I grew older it definitely evolved into a full-blown fetish and I find loincloths incredibly sexy and love seeing men in them. And I have a few different loincloths, mostly ones I have made, and one leather one I got off of ebay, and I do enjoy wearing them every now and then casually rather than in a sexual setting. I imagine as I wear more my love will just keep on growing.

Welcome!
For me, like many, it started with a few well illustrated history books, a childish imagination, and a sexuality to explore. When I was younger, I read many books on preemodern Greece, Rome, Mexico, America and Oceania. Whenever I read about these topics, I fpund myself enamoured with the male bodies on display, and would write my own fantasy stories full of handsome loinclothed men. It was an excellent way to indulge, and a surprisingly good motivator to refine my writing style.
My current project features a race of dragon-people who live in a society that's sort of a mashup of Roman urban life, Hadenosaunee democracy, and Tupi-Guaraní religion. They have tails, so they tie their loincloths in dozens of different ways.
Even today, I still like to put on my loincloth, tuck my old foam sword in the belt, and play at being some hero or warrior from faraway lands.
Heh. Did you try put barbarians in table-top or life action role-playing? It sounds as if it was something for you :)
TTRPGs and LARP ate both Hobbies that I love more than anything, but unfortunately, I've never had the courage to dress down my characters to a loincloth for either. My DnD character, who is also my fursona, is typically bare-chested with brown trousers or cargo shorts. My LARP character wears pants and an open leather vest.
Interestingly enough, I've never played a barbarian. I favor the spellcasting classes quite a lot more. Someday, I hope I join a campaign that warrants a loinclothed character (probably a druid because they're badass.)
If my dreams came true, and I could attend a European LARP with a relaxed dress code, I think my life would be complete. I might just make it one of my life goals.
When I was about 10 years old, I watched a movie accidentally. The Japanese soldiers were wearing fundoshi (Japanese traditional loincloth) in the movie, and it caught my interest. I tried to find more similar TV dramas and movies about this and found myself getting addicted to them. In 2018, my ex bought a rokushaku fundoshi himself, and I asked him to buy one for me. Rokushaku fundoshi needs time to put on, but I can't stop loving it the first time I wear it. I have bought maybe 20 fundoshi and wear them every day. If I don't wear a fundoshi, I might feel depressed. Now I send my photos to close friends and buy them fundoshi if they are interested in it. Many of my friends have started to wear fundoshi like me now.
Same, I first came across them in National Geographic as a kid and have been fascinated by them since. I don't wear mine often for various reasons, but I love when I get a chance to. Mostly worn at home but I've worn them out in the woods and to the beach a couple of times, and once to a hot springs.
I grew up on Ron Ely's Tarzan, as well as the stray sword and sandal/Tarzan/western on the afternoon movie (man, I miss local programming), to say nothing of various comics—all the usual suspects like Tarzan/Korak, Conan, Brothers of the Spear, Warlord of Atlantis, etc. Later on thanks to the Internet I learned about Rahan (as Haraak mentioned above), and then many many others.
I don't wear one myself, but I do appreciate how they can make a man look. ;)
Give it (or them) a try :)
I am not one of those men who will be improved by a loincloth, alas. ;)
Thinking back, I can't quite recall the specifics...
Always had an interest in history, and I suppose it must've started with some of the prehistory for kids books we had in primary school. Never really had any westerns, or old sword & sandal comics, didn't even get around to watching Disney's Tarzan. From there, suppose it was helped a lot by being part of one of the online generations. I happened to come across stuff about making loincloths, different styles of them around the world, got around to doing the whole cutting up underwear to try and make one. Also remember finding and watching an animated version of The Jungle Book, can't remember the full name, but it was a Japanese-Canadian production I think.
Nonetheless, didn't really start taking an interest until I was 16 or 17. Was getting very much into writing, and thanks to the game UnReal World, I wound up creating a setting based in the Middle Stone Age. Same one I still work on and write about today. From there, lots of delving into archaeology and anthropology, making characters for the setting and, inevitably, putting them in loincloths. I also wouldn't be above saying I have a thing for them, struck at the right time since I was a little slower figuring myself out with regards to sexuality.
In my case, it was seeing barbarians, tribesmen, early humans, and such in books, movies, TV shows, comics, art, etc. /Conan the Barbarian/, /The Beastmaster/, /Tarzan/, and /The Indian in the Cupboard/ were all big influences among those.
At some point I simulated loincloth flaps by tying two shirts around my waist in front and back. And by my teens I'd made a breechcloth out of worn-out pajama pants; I cut the legs next to the seams and crudely sewed them together end-to-end to make a long-enough cloth, then tied the stringlike seams themselves around my waist as the belt. And dressed thusly, I sometimes played a with a few Lego buildings, imagining being a captive tribesman out of his element (a la /Tarzan in New York/ etc), escaping down the side of a wrecked building after an earthquake had partly knocked it over.
In my 20s, I started buying fabric from a fabric store and to make rather neater loincloths. Some were woven fabric, torn along the weave to make straight edges. But most were/are knit fabric, either cotton lycra or T-shirt material, cut along their subtle ribbing to make neat straight edges. I've gone for walks in my loincloths sometimes (as people from the old Yahoo group can attest), though it's been some years. But mostly they're just what I wear around the house, sometimes with tall socks or old pajama pant leggings when it's not warm enough for bare legs.
