Re: Re: Re: Feel Alright (Working for Somebody Else single b-side) - source?

How different (if any) is the dB's version from the original? Also, did the dB's ever consider recording a Big Star cover?

Thanks!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Feel Alright (Working for Somebody Else single b-side) - source?

Not too different, we like the original a lot. The only cover we ever released in the band's lifetime.

No, we'd played Big Star songs since the albums came out when we were in high school. Our covers were usually more obscure ("Lovers of Today" by the Only Ones, "Compared to What" by Les McCann & Eddie Harris, "All Night Long" by Lionel Richie, for three examples), and we assumed people would expect us to do Big Star stuff.

Chris does "Compared to what?" on his album with Yo La Tengo....and don't forget "Atlantis" by Donovan...look forward to seeing you guys at Maxwells tomorrow night!

There was a great interview done by WFMU DJ Pseu Braun a couple of years ago with engineer/producer (and Ardent label co-owner) Terry Manning, along with Max Wisley and Bill Phillips from Cargoe. And I hasten to point out it includes plenty of music as well.

It's archived at http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/9142 and is recommended listening for anyone interested in learning more about the early 70s Memphis rock scene. Also recommended: the Rockin' Memphis comp (and most other releases) on Terry Manning's Lucky 7 label (http://www.luckysevenrecords.com/).
