Re: Hey Peter -- How did you guys first hook up with/find Jeff Benninato?

ok, I actually met the dB'S at the new orleans worlds' fair, that would be 1984 where the dB'S actually played on a rotating stage, if I'm not mistaken they played before or after Mr. Allen Toussaint. I don't think Peter remembers. One of their managers is from n.o. and played 'like this', It just blew me away! Then he said to me they were looking for a bass player, my answer was when, how and where! we officially met in N.Y. city for auditions, the rest is history. Hope that gives some idea how we met.

Re: Re: Hey Peter -- How did you guys first hook up with/find Jeff Benninato?

Ah yes, Jeff I actually do remember quite a bit about the Worlds' Fair gig. It was with Allen Toussaint, ostensibly being filmed for a show called "The Funniest Man in the World (or At Least the Worlds' Fair)" hosted by Alan Thicke. I was real excited to say hello to AT, but he kinda blew me off. The show was in the Jazz and Gospel Tent at the Worlds' Fair, and I guess we played fine then partied the rest of the time. The show got cancelled sometime during the wrap party and never got aired because it just wasn't very funny.

When Jeff joined the band, we were in NYC and were not getting along very well. I think he must've thought he was climbing aboard a sinking ship; but his perserverance and good soul helped keep the band together for another album and another few years.

Who produced that?

Hi Peter,

Do you remember who produced that show? I wonder if a copy of it still exists out there somewhere...

Jake

Re: Who produced that?

I'm guessing NBC. Walter Williams was partially responsible for getting us hooked into that show.

Re: Re: Who produced that?

I'll have to investigate further.

You know, have to laugh. I was in NO at the same time playing french horn with my high school band at some sort of competition at Kennedy High. Absolutely no sound absorption in that auditorium. Half the kids weren't watching the conductor. We lost badly.
