Cradle tonight

not all the songs and in no particular order. maybe someone will have it they way they played it. was kind of wondering if it would sell out at first, but by the time the mayflies u.s.a. came on, it was fairly packed to capacity. as close to a sellout crowd as i've seen there. god, i had a great time.

just off the top of my head set list (and not at all in order) :

ask for jill
from a window to a screen
molly says (the first chill i got tonight was from from this one, about six songs in)
black and white (the opening song)
big brown eyes
love is for lovers
cycles per second
world to cry
happenstance
in spain
if and when
neverland
lonely is as lonely does
living a lie (opened with a snippet of "we should be in bed" and had the small horn section)
white train (will rigby lead vocal)

no "she's got soul" (kind of surprised about that)

several more. the encores were:

amplifier
tomorrow never knows (with peter on acetone and the horns came out again)
kissy boys (the little diesel song with little diesel lead vocalist bob northcott coming up to sing). freakin' rocked like the garage masterpiece it is on the little diesel record.

nothing is wrong - lovely duet.

seems nearly every band from back in the day had a member in attendance. saw folks from the x-teens, fabulous knobs, arrogance, 1 + 2, snatches of pink, connells, dish, glory fountain, the hanks, jack wenberg. tim lee and susan. certainly a lot of old school durham and chapel hill (former early to mid 70's unc classmates) folks all there. even old record store employees, roadies & college dj's i'd forgotten about. not sure if mitch easter was in attendance, but if so, just about the entire line ups to the bands h-bombs, little diesel, secret service and sneakers were there as chris chamis, northcott, pete gamble and rob keely were in the crowd.

i missed the stamey era dB's (though i got to play guitar with chris a few years later). my first time seeing 'em was in the fall of '84 at duke's page auditorium opening for r.e.m.

the years came rushing by so fast tonight. i felt i was in some kind of state of mind that was a mix of present and past. dreamlike, really. the guys looked great too. they've all aged gracefully and not that much really, especially gene and will. they barely look 40. they certainly don't look 24 years older. none of them. which begs the question, what the hell happened all of us in the crowd!? ;)

Re: Cradle tonight

yeah, the guys behind me called it "the rocking chair tour" after checking out the audience ... not your typical rock show crowd these days.

Re: Re: Cradle tonight

yeah, fiftyish bald guys pogoing in front of the stage...quite a sight to see

Re: Re: Re: Cradle tonight

Hey - I happened to be one of the "fifty-ish" bald guys pogoing - that was a great time

Re: Re: Re: Re: Cradle tonight

I hope you didn't think I was being critical. Just commenting that it was interesting to see.
--Says another fiftyish bald(-ing) guy who did not have the energy to pogo.
