Re: Sam Moss

If there was ever a father figure to the Winston combo scene, it would be Sam Moss. Sam was a friend and mentor to all the musicians that played in rock bands in Winston-Salem from about 1967 onward. There was never a better guitarist in our midst. His store was a gathering place for us all over the years. Sam was a sweet and generous man; he never asked anyone for any help, but he was the first in line to help his friends when they needed it. His death has shaken and saddened us to the core.

May Sam and his beloved Dido be reunited in peace now.

Re: Re: Sam Moss

Sam was one of a kind ... I didn't know him well, but he was always fun (and as everyone has pointed out, a great guitar player). We played in Winston-Salem on Friday night with Mitch & Co., and we had a great time. But it was truly sad when Faye Hunter called Saturday morning as we were leaving town to tell us of Sam's death. I know how much everybody around there loved him, so I can't imagine what it's like for them.

R.I.P. Sam ... I hope it's Big Hat Time wherever you are.

Re: Re: Re: Sam Moss

Peter, all.
My deepest condolences on Sam's passing.
I was lucky enough to meet him when I was a reporter for the W-S Journal, c.97-98, and though he was gruffer than heck, he was still welcoming to a newcomer. Met him again several years later when my band played The Garage with The Saving Graces, and he was exactly as I remembered him.
One of a kind, indeed.
May he rest in peace.
